Default mac headers?

i've read stuff about mac before but i was never interested in purchasing so i cant remember if i read good things or bad about mac. i tried doing a search but didnt really find anything.

here's the question, somebody local is selling used mac long tube headers for $125. (has 1/2" dent in one of the primary tube from hitting the motor mount). what do you guys think about mac headers? and is it worth it to buy these headers even with the dent? i have the cash, just debating on whether i should buy them. thanks for any help.

I'd pass on mac headers but thats just me. I know plenty of people who are very happy with mac. Quality wise, its average to say the least.

hahaha...be ready to waste your whole day intalling them and you won't be finished if its your first time. I had a professional do it in 4 hrs with every tool imaginable.

floppy, i read about mac headers causing problems with engines. I mean...for $125...to get long tubes. We all know that if it seems to good to be true, then it probably is. Fact is, even if they don't mess up your car, something for $125 can't give u much, if any hp, PLUS u gotta think of the quality of the parts. It'd probably rust like a mother and not last very long.

i know the guy that's selling them. he's parting out his whole car. he's selling heads and cams with upgraded springs for $900, an 03 cobra tank with pumps, a 2v motor and a whole bunch of other stuff. there is no rust or anything else wrong with the headers except for the dent. my main question was are mac headers, if in perfect condition other than being slightly used, worth $125 and if so how hard is it to install them. but after hearing stories from a friend whos installed LT's on a couple mustangs and refuses to do any more regardless of how much beer i offer him i dont think im going to buy them. i would never purchase them at full price because they dont yeild enough gains in hp, now i wont even buy them for next to nothing because of the work involved in order to get 5 or 10 hp...

Full exhaust on a 2v will yield you at least 25 rwhp.

I said at least 25 rwhp. You will most likely see a good 30+ hp increase from what you have not...put this into perspective, with the mods you have now you might be making 240 rwhp, adding lt's will yield you at least 260-270 rwhp.. but whatevever...

Default Some people....

Omg - dont pass on mac longtubes for **** sakes... I have mac longtubes - excellent quality - amazing hp gain and u can get them for 125 holy sh it you better buy those - THEY WONT DESTROY UR ENGINE - I dunno who came up with that BULLSH!T but its not true in the least - who ever had those obviously didnt install them properly - and probly didnt get a good seal on the block - if that was the case then the stock manifold would *** up you car - LOL i cant belive the crap that people float around out there... mac is some of the best stuff you can get - ill give you pics of mine and maybe video if I can get it onto the computer right ... anyway anything installed wrong will mess up your stuff its not macs problem its theirs - also if its a litle dent dont worry about it - But i would recommend Mac's over anything else - bc they are not over priced like bbks you can get them on ebay for about 400... go with mac it wont hurt your feelings I promise!

IMO, there is nothing wrong with mac headers. I think they're all quite the same, it's who you get to install them is what counts. If it's an unexperienced shop, then you'll get your car back with dents in the headers...

I dont think this is true. Say you have already a straight exhaust and w/e mods and you put down 240RWHP. You get the Longtubes AND X-pipe, I think you would be very lucky to get 20, 15RWHP is my est.
Longtubes just aren't a good bolt on with nothing else, but say you have all the bolt on's espcially a good CAI such as JLT and a 75mm TB/Plenum, then lontubes will help a little bit more. But I still don't think 25RWHP is reasonable.

I'm sure you are familiar with something called a tune.

Are you speaking from experience, cause i see your car is an auto and you will not make as much as power as a 5-speed with similar mods as you.

Yes I am speaking from experience. I only picked up 5HP with a tune and had all my mods that are in my sig. Also I was keeping in mind a manual, I really don't think you would get 25RWHP with LT's even with a manual and a good dyno tune.

Okay so what is your car putting down now, with longtubes and all?

in my sig, 240RWHP. We have no clue whatsoever what my car put down bone stock. If my car was exactly 260 BHP, and my auto takes out 20% of total HP, I would be at 208RWHP bone stock. I'm at 240 now, take away 5HP from my dyno tune that's 235. Take away another 5 for a CAI, that's 230. About 22RWHP with my FULL exhaust, all SLP. So just longtube would prolly be around 15 RWHP by them selves on my car.

That is awfully low for the bolt on you have man. I'd get my your car redynoed man. A friend of mine 98 gt with pi heads/cams/intake and full exhaust and bolt ons with an anuto put down 255 rwhp..so
