Default headers, long vs short

I understand the pros and cons of short and long tube headers. But I purchased a pair of BBK shorty headers awhile ago for cheap off of craigslist. I am probably going to be getting some cams after my rebate comes for purchasing a house. How much HP will I be leaving on the table if I just go with the shortys I have sitting in my garage instead of selling them and buying some nice longtubes?

Well look at WNRacing, he just picked up 20rwhp with LTs. Your shorties would probably give you no gain. Maybe a little bit, but not 20rwhp like WN's longtubes. And he doesn't even have cams, so that only multiplies the loss for you.

I say sell 'em and buy some BBK LTs, usually they're only like 500-600 bucks with the mid-pipe if you find 'em used.

Basically, the only pro of shorties is that you will remain 100% emissions legal. Also, at the very top of your rpm band, you can possible out power long tubes. So if you're willing to deal w/ the costs and install, get a set of long tubes. Otherwise, stay stock.
