Wipers

Here recently I noticed that when i turn my wipers on delay, they stick... like... they'll go partially up the windshield and stop. I have to turn them on low or high to get them to work again. Any ideas as to what is causing this and how to fix it?

BLazE 09-27-2009 07:54 AM

Maybe your wipers are pressed up against the windshield too much?

not sure how that could be...

Im assuming your only turning them on when wet correct? And are your blades very old?

cr4sh_0v3rl0ad 09-27-2009 08:42 AM

Yes only on when wet. And they're pretty new blades, couple months old i suppose. I just don't get why they only stick when on delay

BLazE 09-27-2009 09:26 AM

I'm guessing it's an electrical problem then.

Deathdiesel 09-27-2009 11:21 AM

Hmm, id say turn em on with water of course, and step out of your car and feel if they are pressing harder than hell.

cr4sh_0v3rl0ad 09-27-2009 06:55 PM

:( i just want em fixed lol

hotshot13422 09-27-2009 07:04 PM

they aren't pressing down to hard, that's impossible. It's either a motor problem or an electrical problem. If you have a haynes manual check it and see how hard it is to get to the motor

BLazE 09-27-2009 07:26 PM

If the wipers are too big, then, yeah, they could be pressing too hard. It happens.

hotshot13422 09-27-2009 07:52 PM

i was assuming that he had the right wipers. Yeah, if you have the wrong wipers that's the problem.

cr4sh_0v3rl0ad 09-27-2009 08:25 PM

I have the correct wipers.

BLazE 09-27-2009 09:00 PM

Then, that is not the problem lol. If it's not an electrical problem, God hates you.

Not too much help so far... I have not read / experienced anything specific to Mustangs about this issue but I have had several cars do similar types of things. I am sure there is a way to trace the wire and throw a volt/ohms meter on it to see if all is well with the switch. Then tear apart the wiper motor to make sure the clocking mechanism is lubricated and working appropriately.... however.. I have always just bought a used wiper / turn signal stalk and switch and replaced it. They are usually under $50 and easy to swap out. It has fixed it every time. However, if that didn't fix it, then I would have just bought a used wiper motor and replaced that. If that didn't solve it, I was out $100 and knew that God was unhappy with me and sent me an electrical gremlin.

I've been wanting to help you with this but I cant quit laughing!

OK.......... does it happen in only one spot on the mulifuntion lever or in the whole delay range?

Next, make sure that no one has "duct taped" your wipers down, if so remove duct tape and recheck for proper operation:D

It does it thru the whole delay range yet operates fine in low and high positions. Checked for duct taped wipers... I'm good there! LOL

mustangV6_04 09-28-2009 04:50 PM

the multifunction switch is bad, happen a few times on my pops old sn95

cr4sh_0v3rl0ad 09-28-2009 06:02 PM

so... what do i needa do? replace the turn signal/wiper stalk?

cobra1923 09-29-2009 07:26 AM

Yes

cr4sh_0v3rl0ad 09-29-2009 02:42 PM

that sucks

cobra1923 10-01-2009 08:29 AM

It's easy.. buy a replacement from one of the reputable Mustang Salvage yards around the country, pick up one from ebay, or buy new from Ford. Pull off the steering cowl, unbolt the old one, unhook the wires, plug in the new one.. put it back together and enjoy
