I want to drop a new transmission in a few years before I supercharge. I was just wondering what all is involved and what am I looking at?

I was thinking tremec 5 or 6 speed

By the time I can afford the transmission my 6'er will have an 8.8" rear diff with 3.73's

I'm guessing they will have to chop off my exhaust pipes to get to it right?

Things needed: Tune for the computer, manual pedal set,tranny,shifter,driveshaft, manual tranny harness, flywheel,clutch setup, all hydraulics for clutch setup.

I don't know if the tranny cross member is the same for the auto and manual cars in the 05+ cars. And you need to change the console for the shifter. I don't know if its like the 94-04 cars where you can swap out the shifter bezel for a manual one and be done with it or if the console has to be changed. With a little more digging you can find that out pretty easily.

Im not bashing you by any means but damn 8 grand just to swap the auto for a manual is a bit steep. Just throwing this out there but you could sell your auto 6'er and buy a manual V8 and it would cost you less. But hey thats just my opinion on the matter and by all means its your car but thats my 2 cents

 

You can do that swap for way less money yourself.

 

Yeah, I've started thinking about that.. Turning this sixxer into a beast is going to cost too much. I think I'll just cut my losses and trade in for a gt/gt500 when I go back to refinance this loan

Changing the shifter bezel is not as easy as just swapping on a 99-04 gt. I just did this swap and the hole cut in the body for the shifter to fit thru is different from auto to manual. Also the body on the manual car came up higher inside the car than the auto if that makes sense. Had to cut a make my own custom boot and aluminum mount to make it work

 

It's $8k with all of the options selected (one-piece aluminum driveshaft, NEW trans, etc.) If you buy the base kit it's only $3950. That's not bad for a full conversion, minus the computer tune. That's all you will have to spend unless you are unable to do the swap yourself.

I'm stuck with the sixxer for a little while longer though, its worth almost exactly what I have left to pay on it.. So I would lose my down payment and be stuck with an even bigger loan on the gt..

I've decided to halt all upgrades on the sixxer indefinitely and start paying this one off and saving extra for another down payment.. hopefully sometime next year

 

Good move. Unless you have a real attachment to your v6 or you really don't have the desire to go fast, you're better off trading in for a gt.

 

Yeah, I ran the numbers..

if i keep upgrading this my max hp is somewhere around 350hp at a cost of $125/hp

while switching to and upgrading the gt would give me somewhere around 510hp at a cost of $25-30/hp
