Opinions on engine work

My car (before I got it) was curb-checked going about 65mph and damaged the front suspension so badly, that the chasis was even bent a little. So, I just got money back from the tax return and plan on either using it to fix my car, which would be about $900. Or, I can try to sell it as is and buy a GT. I owe about 2k on it so I wouldn't be getting much from it.

Thing is, I want a car that'll last me through college with out any major mechanical problems. SO, fix or sell?

NewMustangMan 04-28-2009 02:39 PM

i am gonna go with sell, but have you looked around for any GTs yet? if you find a really good deal then sell!

insurance will be higher with a GT so keep that in mind.

jseven 04-28-2009 03:35 PM

would be under moms name like the sixxer.

spike_africa 04-28-2009 04:44 PM

I Would sell it too.

If you're looking for something to get you through college, maybe get a beater. If you're stuck on the stang, there's always the Foxes. Dirt cheap and the 302 feels good in a light version like the LX.

spike_africa 04-28-2009 04:51 PM

Thats what I was thinking too. Sell it and get a fox as they are cheap and you can get parts all day long for cheap for those motors and cars.

jseven 04-28-2009 04:52 PM

I dislike foxes and anything before the new edges. There are only a select few classics and fox-body's that i'd take.
Mainly because im not willing to work on them.

i beg to differ. had a 96 V6 and was paying around 288-315 a month. now with my 99 cobra im payin about 114...but on topic..definately sell, a v8 makes you feel good all over

SeanStang 04-28-2009 07:31 PM

With damage like that, I'd sell and upgrade.

SnTBakosFinest 04-28-2009 10:21 PM

with damage like that..theres no guarentee it'll ever be the same.. sell it, if a v8 is what you want go get it.

IMO Foxbody all the way (and if they are cheap to fix, and if kept in good condition, you don't have to fix it :) )

and you were how old with what sort of driving record compared to now?

No way a cobra would be cheaper then the 6...

If your not willing to do some work then do not get an older car for sure.

jseven 04-29-2009 08:03 AM

exactly. man...I was browsing just now for s197s. i want one :(
That's what I'd get if I sold this one.
How do you sell a car???

10507158 04-29-2009 10:29 AM

put a for sale sign in it and let it rip jk

naw seriously u get a buyer and u sign off on your title and the buyer signs off
you have to put it down as sold on your tax return and u r good to go
pretty easy as long as the car is paid off
depends on how much u sell and bought it for u may have to give some of that away to uncle sam

or there is always d fact u can take d risk and just not report it

10507158 04-29-2009 10:30 AM

i dont c how u were paying that much insurance for a 6 unless it was full coverage. im 19 insured by myself w state farm and i pay 92 a month. was 130 before i got my good grades and steer clear discount
thats also w no tickets

jseven 04-29-2009 03:18 PM

So do ya'll reccomend a autotrader/craigslist ad?

jseven 04-29-2009 08:33 PM

Mom agrees on sale. Craislist ad has been thrown up. :(

SeanStang 04-30-2009 06:44 AM

Yeah just start with a craigslist add and put a sign on your car. Might be all it takes, but it's pretty hard to sell a car right now.

Didn't you just get an exhaust put on? Shoulda thought about this before lol.

jseven 04-30-2009 07:59 PM

exhaust was $115. no regrets. lol
