Short Throw Shifter??
Is there any difference in Brands?? Or do you get about the same results with all of them??

MGW all the way.....I got a Steeda Tri-Ax and can't really complaint but I'd go with an MGW if I could still use my Roush handle.

Anything is better then stock and I have yet to see a shifter that isn't better then stock. I have a Tri-Ax from Steeda and I like it. Friend has Pro 5.0 in his car and its nice too.

With an S197, the only way to go is Hurst. Unless you don't like a very solid and effortless shift. Nice and tight, very solid feel, and a very short throw.

One thing that is kinda weird is the fact that Ford recommends pushing the clutch all the way in, and with the ball moving only 2" between gears, it makes the clutch pedal travel seem very long. That would of course be the same with any short throw shifter.
As for the shifter though, it just feels "right". Very tight and precise, and with positive stops. You'll never have any doubt what gear it's going into. Heres a pic from a little further away for a little perspective. |

Yea I noticed a whole lot while I was driving today how far apart the shifts are and how far that you have to press the clutch in cuz some ricer was jackin with me... Also BlueOval I noticed you have the light covers.. how hard is it to see at night with them? |

Not hard. My eyes suck, but the tint is pretty light. It looks darker in my sig pic, as you are not looking straight on, into the reflective part.
*edit* LOL, OK, you might be looking at the avatar pic, which is straight on. It's still not very dark. |

It's static cling window tint. I was afraid the plexiglass type would scratch something.

They're all the same. Just MGW offers slightly more adjustable while the others require to buy different shaped stick. However, considering the application, the only one is the Hurst w/ the chrome stick and white ball. No point in getting a better shifter if it's covered by the stock boot for that clean "ricer" look.

you guys have the link to the mgw shifter? its actually my next mod along with the tranny fluid change. sounds like i may be a little low on it

I remember driving some of the roush cars when I worked at the dealer. I think the shifters were super stiff and I didnt like them at all. The stockers felt pretty nice maybe a bit mushy. Seems like they shift so much more smoothly than the 04 back cars.

I just placed my order today for an MGW. I have no doubt I will be impressed with it, as I have never read negative comments about the MGW but have found at least one or two things said to be negative about other shifters (usually just personal preference though).
