I just got a in a huge fight with my father about my rotors. He said I need to take them to my mechanic so he can do everything, but he doesn't understand that I don't want to pay them to do shit I can do my self.

He said even new rotors need to be shaved, because they can warp just by sitting on the shelf. Is this false?

Idk about the warpped rotors at all but yeah, your missing the clips. Not sure if you have been missing them a while because i didnt take them apart but your definatly missing them. The gap between the shoes and the caliper is where is should be i believe and im def. not seein it.

I figured I would be. What can this cause? I don't even know if that's how the car came or not. :(

Honestly i dunno. Umm how long has it been since you last changed your pads and are you sure they werent on before you took off your old ones? It could cause uneven braking because they are loose which might have been why you old rotors got warped but thats just a guess.

I don't remember exactly when I got new brake pads, but it was after last Summer. Because I fucked up my car pretty good coming home from California. Anyways yeah I had a rotor that came with the car, we put it on, new calipers for both sides and new brakes. Didn't take long for it to start fucking up. I haven't put the new rotors on. I'm being lazy and I want to spray paint them first.

But not having those clips would explain why this is happening. Do they just easily fall out? If so that's why, wait when you get new Calipers do they come with them?

I remember seeing a metal pieace that slid out and in, maybe it was something else.

Because if you can't see them then I don't have them. :( I'm, well I can't think right now to many things going through my head.

Edit: I'm thinking of the pieace that's on top, nevermind. :(

Hmm i cant really tell from the pics, but i know they dont easily fall out unless your messing with them and then its a decent chance that you lost them or forgot em somewhere. Most pads dont come with new clips too. You might have to go buy new calipers, im not real sure how important those clips are, id call your dealer and ask and see if you could have them order those clips or something.

Well I never did mine, my friend did it ant I got new calipers at the time. I don't have a dealer, I don't even know where to look. Bassman needs to get on. LOL I am not buying new calipers again, they're to new.

What happened coming back from California, I went through the forest on the shore I 101 or something. I was braking down through the moutain and noticed my brakes didn't seem right. Noticed that my rear brake pad fell off. So I had to ride ALL THE WAY HOME (5 hours I think). By the time I got home the caliper was completely chewed up, the brake pads were missing, the rotor was CHEWED UP and I still have the rotor. LOL

 Ouch, poor ur car...yea you lost those clips there, theres two per pad, and which side came off both or just one?

Wait, they're in the front and back of the calipers? Um I think it was the driver side that got screwed up badly. The back pad could have still been there, but I don't remember. I do know the one you can see was completely gone, the rotor was screwed up badly and the caliper was chewed up so bad that it was pointless. I replaced it with a new rotor (came with the car) new brakes (including the other side) and new caliper. Then a week or two later I got a new rotor for the other side because someone said it's better to replace them both at the same time. I'm pretty sure they're gone.

Yeah I love my baby and I felt bad for doing it. But I didn't want to get stuck and I had to be to work the next day. I'm just glad for down shifting. :D

Lol yeah theres two clips per pad, they really seem kinda like a steel spring clip, kinda hard to explain. Your best bet would be to call directory, and ask for the nearest ford dealership.

What exactly are they called? Brake Clips? HAHA yeah well they over charge and I don't like them. That's why I go to AutoPart stores or find used parts. Wouldn't I be able just to ask a AutoPart store for them?

Deathdiesel 04-02-2009 08:21 PM

You can try but i rlly dunno. I usually try to stick to dealership, YES i know they overcharge but whatever if i do something, i try to make sure its right lol.

We'll see what bassman or someone else says. :) See if I wasn't trying to buy a motorcycle I would just drop all my money into my car, but yeah so many other things. Thank god I didn't put my new rotors on.

Yes your inbox.

Gr I want them, like RIGHT NOW. E-Bay Searching time.

1st Edit:
bassman97 - What do these Rattle Clips do exactly? Should I replace brake pads and get new ones? Can I find these at CarQuest? Um I don't know what else to ask yet. LoL

2nd Edit:

Sorry, but your dad is wrong. You don't turn brand new rotors and they can't warp on the shelf, unless you're changing the temperature in the room from 500° to 0° in 10 seconds.

As for the clips, I don't know. You can try to see if Car Quest has them, or even NAPA. However, the only place guaranteed to have it is the dealership (though they will probably need to order it). But the point of these clips is to keep the pads snug against the bracket. Ford put them there for a reason, so I wouldn't just leave them out again.

I posted a link, are those it? Should I replace my brake pads then? I'm guessing them not being snug in there will cause uneven braking, which means I would probably need new ones. Grr dealers dealers. :(

I knew he was wrong, I hate how he knows stuff, but he's always asking me for questions. He's like they wrap over time just sitting on the shelf.

Deathdiesel 04-03-2009 03:12 PM

lol na they dont warp that easy, but ford will probably charge you like 20 bucks for them if your lucky, and you wont have to buy whole new calipers. The pads you have atm should be fine if you can get the clips and eventually they wil ware evenly i believe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I don't have the Rattle Clips they will warp my rotors and that means braking is uneven. Bassman - Come on, get on here more fucker. :)

$20 for Rattle Clips, fuck that shit. If the pads aren't fine and they're screwed up to, wont that mean they will warp my rotors AGAIN?

Honestly im just guessin here but, becasue pads are what are meant to wear instead of rotors, i would think that if they are worn uneven, they should wear even onto your new rotors. And yeah i believe if you dont have the rattle clips, that it will brake uneven making your new rotors warped again.

I'm just going to wait until I get the Rattle Clips. I hope they don't get warp, because then it's really going to piss me off. :/
