I just got a in a huge fight with my father about my rotors. He said I need to take them to my mechanic so he can do everything, but he doesn't understand that I don't want to pay them to do shit I can do my self.
He said even new rotors need to be shaved, because they can warp just by sitting on the shelf. Is this false? |
Idk about the warpped rotors at all but yeah, your missing the clips. Not sure if you have been missing them a while because i didnt take them apart but your definatly missing them. The gap between the shoes and the caliper is where is should be i believe and im def. not seein it.

Honestly i dunno. Umm how long has it been since you last changed your pads and are you sure they werent on before you took off your old ones? It could cause uneven braking because they are loose which might have been why you old rotors got warped but thats just a guess.

But not having those clips would explain why this is happening. Do they just easily fall out? If so that's why, wait when you get new Calipers do they come with them? I remember seeing a metal pieace that slid out and in, maybe it was something else. Because if you can't see them then I don't have them. :( I'm, well I can't think right now to many things going through my head. Edit: I'm thinking of the pieace that's on top, nevermind. :( https://pontiworld.com.au/usafordsp/images/F10095.jpg E |
Hmm i cant really tell from the pics, but i know they dont easily fall out unless your messing with them and then its a decent chance that you lost them or forgot em somewhere. Most pads dont come with new clips too. You might have to go buy new calipers, im not real sure how important those clips are, id call your dealer and ask and see if you could have them order those clips or something.

What happened coming back from California, I went through the forest on the shore I 101 or something. I was braking down through the moutain and noticed my brakes didn't seem right. Noticed that my rear brake pad fell off. So I had to ride ALL THE WAY HOME (5 hours I think). By the time I got home the caliper was completely chewed up, the brake pads were missing, the rotor was CHEWED UP and I still have the rotor. LOL |

Yeah I love my baby and I felt bad for doing it. But I didn't want to get stuck and I had to be to work the next day. I'm just glad for down shifting. :D |
Lol yeah theres two clips per pad, they really seem kinda like a steel spring clip, kinda hard to explain. Your best bet would be to call directory, and ask for the nearest ford dealership.

Gr I want them, like RIGHT NOW. E-Bay Searching time. 1st Edit: bassman97 - What do these Rattle Clips do exactly? Should I replace brake pads and get new ones? Can I find these at CarQuest? Um I don't know what else to ask yet. LoL 2nd Edit: http://www.google.com/products?q=199...le+Clips&hl=en |
Sorry, but your dad is wrong. You don't turn brand new rotors and they can't warp on the shelf, unless you're changing the temperature in the room from 500° to 0° in 10 seconds.
As for the clips, I don't know. You can try to see if Car Quest has them, or even NAPA. However, the only place guaranteed to have it is the dealership (though they will probably need to order it). But the point of these clips is to keep the pads snug against the bracket. Ford put them there for a reason, so I wouldn't just leave them out again. |

I knew he was wrong, I hate how he knows stuff, but he's always asking me for questions. He's like they wrap over time just sitting on the shelf. |
lol na they dont warp that easy, but ford will probably charge you like 20 bucks for them if your lucky, and you wont have to buy whole new calipers. The pads you have atm should be fine if you can get the clips and eventually they wil ware evenly i believe.

$20 for Rattle Clips, fuck that shit. If the pads aren't fine and they're screwed up to, wont that mean they will warp my rotors AGAIN? |

Honestly im just guessin here but, becasue pads are what are meant to wear instead of rotors, i would think that if they are worn uneven, they should wear even onto your new rotors. And yeah i believe if you dont have the rattle clips, that it will brake uneven making your new rotors warped again.

I'm just going to wait until I get the Rattle Clips. I hope they don't get warp, because then it's really going to piss me off. :/
