Default Is it worth the switch? 95-04

I am looking for newer "more reliable" technology. I have had my 95 gt vert for almost 3 years now. Through that time it has had more than its share over problems(tranny rebuild, rear sway arm, lower ball joints, tie rods, power steering pump, oil leaks, gauges...and so on..) All that is unfortunate because I love this car but I hate having to dump money in it to keep it moving. It's one thing after another.

My car has 106,xxx miles. I spotted an 04 sonic blue(my favorite color) GT for 10k with 50k miles on it. As far as I could see everything was stock except premium wheels and a chin spoiler. Should I sell my first mustang love to hop onto this pony and start over with mods?

As far as I can see the 99+ mustangs have a larger, easier product range compared to the 5.0 of 94/95. Are the 99-04 reliable? First I want opinions on that, then maybe after that some cheap power adding suggestions(aka the usual exhaust, cai, chip? and so on)

Please give me your opions. The only thing I would miss is the drop top on the 95 for the WHOLE 4-5 months of warm weather up here in MI

If you think the costs are worth it, then buy it.

A 99-04 GT is not quick stock by any means. But that car does look nice.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, I like the newer models, and the Engine isn't quit as big, easier to work around.

Any modular motor is much larger then a 302/351 motor based on total engine size. Have you seen a 2v or 4v motor in person? Its much wider and larger then pushrod motors like your 302.

Also the 302 has sooo many more performance parts and its cheaper to mod.

No I haven't, I was just assuming it was smaller, also because it's a 4.6 L instead of a 5.0 L. I know it's cheaper, which is why it's hard for me to choose, but I don't care for the money part that much. I like the newer body style way more and other futures.

You should go drive that 04 first to see if its what you want. Some might disagree with me but I'd say dollar for dollar, A SBF will make more power than a mod motor.

your car is really clean and paid for(hopefully)....just think the money you put in getting a new car you can put into modding your current g-ride and make it the beast you want

Remember, the only difference between a 94/95 and 96-04 is the engine, trans, and looks. Everything else is the same, pretty much (there are other changes but those don't affect reliability). If you want reliable, get an old F-Series w/ the 300 I6.

well thats the problem with mine, the trans and other internal parts. seems like the guy that sold it to me a few years ago got off easy. i mean relaible as in i hear there are way less problems with the newer ones...plus an 04 with 50k or a 95 with 106k? i would take the 04 i believe

ya the 95 was paid for in cash a few years ago. but that "cash" i would put in the 95..with the way this car has been it would lead to more cash to fix something else. right now there is a dent in the door that will cost some $$ to replace due to someone backing into me. i need to fix an oil leak and a gauge cluster. if i sold it i would sell with the dent but provide a fixed oil leak and new gauge cluster aka i wouldnt have to pay $1000+ to fix that dent

I'd do it. Aesthetically, I like the 99-04 A LOT better. And you wouldn't even have to buy a chin spoiler. I really think you'd like that new one.

ultimately I think you should do what you want to do, but if you want my vote, I would go with newer and less miles any day.

What you should do is take the cost of the 04 and add up all the mods you would want to do and then take your 95 the cost of the stuff to fix it plus the mods and see what's cheaper. The thing about mustangs when things break from getting old it gives you an excuse to replace it with that more performance oriented part instead of just being stock. I am also fighting the urge to go back to the New Edge body style that i used to have. I currently own a 92 gt but really miss the newer style but the cost comparison just isn't worth it. This all just my opinion. Like someone else said you have to do what you want in the end.

I'd stick with what you have now, unless you take the other one for a drive and really like it that much better.

As someone else said, use the money you would use to get the new car, and invest it into your old one to make it more of a beast.

I don't like the 2005 on up models, never cared for them. I don't think I would even drive one, haha. I just like the 1999 - 2004 Models better then any other one. Besides like the old school one.

Yeah I hear ya on that. I can't make up my mind on what I want to do, I was going to get this 04 Cobra that does 11 seconds with over 500 Horsepower and Torgue, but now I'm just confused. I hate how I keep changing my mind on what I want to do. I will get a Cobra sooner or later though.

I've driven many powerful cars, SVT Lightning with kenne bell. SVT Focus with jackson racing turbo, mystic chrome SVT Cobra 03. SVT Cobra R, Maserati Quadraportte, Corvette C6 and I'm sure I'm forgetting some so handling the power is not the issue. Just handling the power of my mind to want to punch it.

If I had a choice between a 96-04 Mustang, and your older Stang, I'd take the newer one. And the one that you posted looks great. IMO, the only thing it needs is a drop (and maybe some spacers.) After that, put whatever mod money is available into the engine/drivetrain.

I've driven many powerful cars as well, a lot faster then that Cobra, but I'm not getting it. It'll be sold by the time I want it. I either want a newer GT Mustang for now or a Motorcycle.

cant do the drop. its a read-round vehicle unfortunately and im in michigan...
