Just noticed yesterday that when I took the key out of the ingition my gps unit stayed on. It was plugged into the cig. outlet. Is the outlet suppose to always have power?

When plugged into our Escape the unit came on when the car was started and then off with the car.

 

i believe it is an always hot connection. i know in my car (02 gt) i have to unplug my blue tooth charger from my console or it will drain the battery when the car is off. and the led stays lit on both 12v outlet on dash, and in my console whether the car is on or not. so yeah.....always on connection.

 

mine does the same thing. kind of a PITA

All cig. lighters are wired "hot". Check your power port in the console it should be wired with the key.
