Synkro Down!!!!!!
Hey guys the mustang i just bought has broken on me.... So here is my problem the synkro for 1st and 2nd or when i shift into 2nd is messed up i can't shift into 2nd fast or at a decent speed i have to hold the clutch for a second or so then shift or else it sounds like it is grinding so i was wondering about how much this would cost to get repiared!! Thanks for all your time and comments

i cant imagine the part would be much, most of it would be the labor. While yer in there might as well just have the whole damn thing rebuilt.
isnt gonna be cheap though. Your best bet is just to call around. Depending on the price, might be cheaper to swap out the tranny.
what year, model, and mileage?

BAM
This is probably a lot cheaper than a tranny rebuilt. Call around tomorrow and get some quotes, i doubt yer gonna get a repair for less than this transmission

you could probably put it in yourself, i dont think you need any special tools othre than maybe a $100 transmission jack, but even the tranny jack can be left out if yer creative with ratchet straps.
Ive never put in a mustang trannie, but the first time i ever did anything beyond changing the oil, i replaced the clutch on my honda. I had to hoist the engine a little, pull the axle, remove the starter, take off the transmission and swap out the clutch. I did this with very little knowledge and i learned a ton in the process, it took me 6 hours to take it all apart, probably 2 hours to put it back together, then another 2 hours to undo everything cause i messed up, then another 2 hours to put it all back. A good weekend project.
I think the mustang should be a bit easier, i imagine you just need to disconnect the driveshaft, unhook the clutch cable, undo the bolts to the engine and that should be about it for removal. Repeat the steps in reverse to put it back in. I think you have to unbolt the midpipe of the exhaust too.
i highly reccommend getting either a haynes manual or chiltons manual from Autozone or Checker Auto. Those guides are worth thier weight in gold and will tell you how to do this stuff. And every time you can do something like this for yourself you learn a TON about your car and save yourself a lot of money. Definatly try to have a friend who knows a bit about mechanics help out. I wouldnt even begine to try to rebuild a transmission or an engine, but swapping them is just a process of going step by step and being patient and paying attention to what yer doing.
yah be sure to check with your uncle if he knows cars, he might know somone who can get you a good deal.
Ive bener had my transmission reebuilt, but i have heared of people getting thier transmissions fixed and being charged 1,500+

thanks a bunch with all the advice and i heard about a thing called a tko 500 or 600 and do they need any specific adjustments or extras it needs to install it??? or will those just plug right in??? Ya my uncle knows a bunch about cars but he said he hasn't rebuilt a tranny before just replaced them and he says he doesn't have all the right tools for that but i think maybe i could just buy those
