Default Spark Plug / Wire Question

Is it necessary to replace the ignition wires when changing spark plugs? I have always heard that people do them together, but why should the wires need replaced?

depends on the car, driving style and mileage; from the factory the platinum plugs are suppose to last @100k under normal driving conditions and sparkplug wires are usally good to between 60 to 80k....

I have 60k. I picked up the motorcraft plugs today, and they are installed, just need torqued. My old plugs were disgusting, I am glad I replaced them. I have Belden wires coming in at Napa tomorrow morning. I have one valve cover gasket replaced, but am having trouble with the passenger side. I should get that finished tomorrow, clean my air filter, MAF sensor, and then my car should be running like a top!! Then I have to give it away for a week to get my side fixed : (
