heater core?

how hard is it to replace the heater core in a 85 mustang? mine just whent out today.

officer4c13 01-17-2008 03:22 PM

and about how mutch dose one cost?

r3dn3ck 01-17-2008 03:39 PM

it's a one eyed one horned flying purple muther fukker with pain pudding on top. Takes the average joe a couple days.

Cost... couple hundred for the parts.

officer4c13 01-17-2008 03:48 PM

are you being sarcastic or is it realy that hard?

zigzagg321 01-17-2008 08:21 PM

its a tedious job. lotsa crap has to get outta the way for it to come out.

krazypony 01-18-2008 07:28 AM

I believe its basically behind your dash/glove box area. So you basically have to remove the entire dash to access it.

$200 part = $1200 labor!

r3dn3ck 01-18-2008 07:52 AM

Yeah... it's a little of both but I was being funny not sarcastic. Sheesh.

It's not actually hard, hell it's just turnin' screws but it's definitely tedious and uncomfortable. I'll bypass mine if it ever pops.

Radiator cap "loose" setting? ummm, you mean open...its either open or closed other than the "vent" position...you shouldnt be driving with it like that...its just to release pressure so the cap doesnt blow off when removing it if the engine is still warm.

not really, I was letting you know you shouldn't drive around with the rad cap half on.

will it make problems? well sure it will...if the cap is half on then you will have a coolant leak at the cap. Also, there isn't supposed to be air in the system, so running the motor with a compromised seal in the system will introduce air...not good. can cause overheating.

hopfuly ill have it fixed by next weekend till then i just have to make it home from work tonight.

85/86 cars were easier then 87+ cars i do beilive. i just did one in my 87. a real ford heater core was $50 and it took my sunday to get the dash out, cut the box open, swap them out, then i sealed it back up. put it all back together monday evening. i wasnt really in a hurry though.
