Default Air filter maintenance

K&N recommends that you that clean out your air filter between 30-50k and sometimes beyond. I thought that was quite a long stretch without cleaning it, and was wondering how often you guys give it a good refresh.

Just follow what they say. They are the masters. Also, when you re-oil....more is not better....only use what you need.

The one in my truck has about 50k on it and my filter meter is still good.

I clean mine if it is starts to look dirty. Basically I check it each oil change and if it appears to be dirty I'll clean it. I've only cleaned mine once at about 25k.

i do it once every year or two. But it depends on where you live and how much dirt/dust is around. I live in the city with paved streets so i dont deal with much dust. However at my cabin in NC its a dirt road and covers the cars filter just over the summer.

Alright, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure they weren't talking up their product, and it actually goes that long without a clean. Good to know my money went towards something useful.

would this be bad...if you soaked the filter in hot water and soap then shook it in the water to break off the dirt. Then let it dry and sprayed it with brake cleaner and soaked it in just water...does that sound harmful to the air filter?

just follow the directions on the re-charge kit. If something happens and you jack up the media, you're out the $50 cause you messed it up. the warranty will not cover improper cleaning.
