Strange broken suspension?

Ok i have no clue what to make of this....whenever i back up latey i hear a loud clunking sound...i also hear it chen i'm making low speed tight turns.....also lately whenever i get on the gas my rear end seems really loose and kinda moves around....i have no clue what is broken and can't see anything obvious any ideas?

spike had sumthin' kinda like that happen to him, i believe his problem was a torn bushing on the rear sway bar...my best guess would be to check that...

bassman97 09-26-2007 07:14 AM

It was on the upper control arm. You know the sway bar is connected directly to the control arms w/ no bushings right?

I tore my lower control arm bushings. It made the cars rear move around under thorttle. You might have the same problem i did. I was told i got a bad set of bushings.

how high about the axle would it sit? i've seen it up on a lift before and don't remember seeing a sway bar. agh, i might have to get out of bed and go look, lol. i remember seeing one on the front, but not the back..hmm

it attaches onto each of your lower control arms. here's mine:

As far as I know, V6 cars didn't come stock w/ sway bars.

yup...the last year for a REAR sway bar for a v6 stang was 1997. thats a ripoff if you ask me.

v6'stang 09-27-2007 06:05 AM

yea zig ya musta thought i either had a gt or an old sixxer, i didn't think i had one, just confirmed it :( lol, just one more thing to add on!

03gtmustang 09-27-2007 01:04 PM

Maybe its not the suspension.

v6'stang 09-27-2007 02:13 PM

hey blue thunder, fix the problem yet?? also, when u say the rear end seams loose and moves around, are you talking about the overall rear end, like the whole ass end of the car, or just the axle?

Blue Thunder 09-28-2007 05:35 AM

The looseness in the rear end is cuz im driving on drs right now, as far the knocking i have no clue yet. It knocks like hell when i back out of a parking spot. Sounds like a ca chunk sound when i back up or when i make a low speed tight turn.

v6'stang 09-28-2007 03:14 PM

umm, check ur exhaust. make sure it's not bangin' into ur driveshaft, axle, etc. other then that idk. maybe have a friend stand outside the car while u pull in and out of ur driveway so they can hear it from the outside, maybe pinpoint it better? good luck!

mine does the same...i think its from the MM LCA's I have them too...the XD metal bushing versions...they are NOISY!

Blue Thunder 09-30-2007 10:41 PM

It's like a fuckin grinding sound now and it still does the kachunk noise too....its staring to really concern me....something is definately not right on this car.

hmayoral 10-02-2007 08:40 PM

My clunk sound in the rear turned out to be my Torque boxes. The upper controls arm I installed from hotchkis were too stiff (poly bushings too hard) and was flexing them. I replaced them with FRPP Uppers (rubber bushing 50% stiffer than stock) and now she's quiet with little lateral movement and no wheel hop. I left the lower arms w/poly bushings on.
