someone stole my car

Had a 2000 GT. someone stole it and trashed it. My question is how did they steal it without the key? I thought the chip in the key prevented that, but apparently not.

Jack The Ripper 04-26-2007 03:35 PM

The keys are not chipped. :(

doobie 04-26-2007 03:44 PM

why the hell do dealers charge $70+ for a new key?!

SxyXc 04-26-2007 04:04 PM

my dads 200 truck key is chipped. and i know this because my mom dropped em and broke the cover for the chip it fell out and the car woudn't start. it took us a good 3 hours to figure it out. but it sound the car sounds like the battery is dead when you try to start it with out a chip in the key..

4.6 Love 04-26-2007 04:05 PM

That sucks...

cobraville 04-26-2007 04:07 PM

The key is definitely chipped.

SxyXc 04-26-2007 04:16 PM

yeah it should have been. but i know that i the thefts now a days also have technology with them sad to say be i bet alot of car thefts out there has something to get it to work without the chipped key.
wow this really sucks and i feel sry for ya

zigzaggthefag321 04-26-2007 05:27 PM

well, im not gonna bother to fight this but last time i mention the keys being chipped i had about 12 people jump in and say the keys are not chipped, some working for dealers. I never saw any information for the keys being chipped.

just did some google searching, you might be right. if it is chipped tho it is only for the ignition, the doors dont require the chip.

looks like it is a PATS key whatever that is. guess yer right. i wonder why so many people here jumped on me last time i mentioned a key being chipped. i oughtta find that thread and send out some "I TOLD YA SO"'s. lol...

all i know is this, whatever the hell crap security system our mustangs have, if somone wants to steal it, they are gonna steal it. If the car thief is only half brained and 1/4 competant he can find a way around it

jjgt06 04-27-2007 05:04 AM

sorry that sucks bad!!! i think that chip only acks so the engine will not rev up when being ripped off, could they have towed it?

venom 04-27-2007 05:34 AM

Its definitely chipped as that is why I did not use a Cobra ECU for my motor swap. I also had a key made at Home Depot and it can open the doors plus turn the ignition but will not start. Best thing to have is an alarm with paging option and GPS.

96gtstang 04-27-2007 05:37 AM

Jack- ya ur right its only for the ignition, i dunno i think on this forum when ppl are halfway sure about a good answer for somones question they just reply to the question as if their 100% sure ther right...thats proly why they gave u some crap about it..

I tried startin the car without the chip and when you crank it and it will start, run for 2 seconds and shut off and thats it might even only be 1 second but its starts an stallls really fast without the chip

The chipped keys in our cars make the ECU not activate the fuel pump when the chip is not present. So if someone wants to steal the car then they have to jump the fuel pump at the relay to provide power to the pump. Thats why the car will run for a very short time without a chipped key it burns all the fuel in the rails.

StormsGT 04-27-2007 04:28 PM

Ya,when I frist got my GT I didn't know and had on made a the true value here. The car would start for a second and die.I was pissed when I had to pay $75 for a damn key. Then when I was putting in a B&M hammer shifter I found one in the floor where you had to have it apart to see. Lucked out on the one.

01GTBlown 04-27-2007 10:25 PM

Mine wont even start without the chipped key, it just turns over and turns over.

that does suck...how bad did they mess it up? did insurance "total" it? and did they catch the bastards?

SxyXc 04-28-2007 09:20 AM

yeah i know i really want to upgrade my security system on my car, like really bad. on my vert. i have seen ppl jump over the back of my car and get in the back seats when the top was down. and the alarm didn't go off. then the other day i found out all you had to do was just hit the unlock switch inside of my stang on the door and you could get in without the alarm going off...

when i get the money what do yall suggest that i look for as and aftermarket security system??

Shit you're going to pull a Badfish on us..

If you don't have a CCW keep your weapon out of the reach of the driver, it's stupid but that's pretty much how you have to do it for it to be legal...

venom 05-02-2007 05:46 AM

If you want something that does not include a monthly fee like GPS,get this http://www.nocarstolen.com/index.php...d=28&Itemid=32 . Only problem is if they tow the car then you will be out but thats why you want GPS. If you can pay for constant monitoring it will continuously track your car plus you can send commands to your car shut it off or unlock it like OnStar.
