Transmission Fluid?
I was just wondering how much transmission fluid my car takes and what kind I should use? I have a T-45 transmission.
|
awesome i was just gonna post a thread like this,so in addition to his question..what about mine...its a 2001 GT Auto
|
damn, just when I thought I had a response. haha

It's friday were getting drunk give us a break anyways .....
T-45=3.25Qts ish the Auto transmission is a little over 12 quarts |
I believe you fill it until level w/ the fill hole. I might be thinking of the T5 but I'm pretty sure it's the same.

T-5 is a bit different the t-45 and the 3650 are the same though so maybe the manual guys could chime in here to double check my s*** |
Well, my manual for the TR3650 says to fill below the fill hole (should only feel the fluid when you stick your finger in it). If the TR3650 and T45 are the same in that aspect, then that's the method if you are going by that.

what tranny do you have in your slowbra?? ha ha...just kidding. 4 quarts is too much fluid for the 3650's. 3.17 quarts is the proper amount per tremec.

You do know that Lucas sells a Semi-Synthetic ATF? That is what I have been running for about 2 years now.
|
I use amsoil ATF and I short the 3650's by a half quart from spec so it shifts easier when cold.

2. Unscrew the drain plug (plug uses a 3/8" drive w/ no socket and is located at the bottom of the tail housing). 3. Once fluid is fully drained, put plug back in and undo the fill plug (looks exactly the same but it's located on the passenger side of the tail housing about 1/4 of the way up). 4. Fill w/ 3-1/4 qts of a nice synthetic Mercon/Dexron III ATF (I recommend Redline D4 ATF). 5. Once filled, put plug back in, lower the car, and your done. Also, try to change the fluid while warm since the fluid will be able to suspend any particles better therefore making your fluid change more effective. |
so does the fluid pour right in or do you need one of those hand held pumps?
|
a pump makes the whole process easier and less messy. i havent done it any other way but its kinda tight in there.
|
Get the pump. The one I got from Sears was a nice piece that attaches to the bottle.
|
yeah.. they're like 7 bucks and infinitely useful for the shadetree mechanic.
|
Thanks for the info fellas.
|
thanks man, thats going to be an up comimg project....
