Default Clutch problems ?

What does a burning clutch smell like? Brakes ? I was at work and my house caught fire(everyone is ok except the kitchen is no more) when my wife called me at work i ran my stang pretty damn hard to get back home and it was smokin from my cracked intake, but that has smoked before and this new smell was way worse.

Its hard to describe what a buning clutch smells like.....its a rather strong smell...smells nasty to me
thats basically how it was explained to me..and fair enough one day i was driving hard and slipping the clutch more than i should and yup..i smelled a smell i didnt smell before and i knew right then it was teh clutch.

Unless u abuse your clutch alot...I wouldnt worry about the smell..the clutch should still be good if its not to old.......And if the time comes where u need a new one...i HIGHLY recommend the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch,,,stay away from SPEC clutches.

What ya gonna do about the kitchen situation? sad to hear

This was a stong almost sulfur like kinda smell , i jumped on the brakes really hard a few times on my home that night,i was hoping it was the brakes burnin. The clutch seems fine, the car runs fine, but i do notice a strange noise like a hissing, grinding sound when i drive and at idle,i cant pinpoint it though(i noticed it the next day so it is a new noise). As for the house my insurance is taking care of everything down to the smallest detail. We need an entire new kitchen and they sent a company out that is scrubbing down my whole house top to bottom to get the smelly smoke out.

Yep, that was your clutch (could have been a combo of brakes and clutch, of course). If it has under 80,000 miles, even this abuse should not be cause for alarm. 100k and over, well, may be time to plan that next upgrade...

As for the new noise, its likely that your cracked 97 era intake is giving up the ghost. You just drove it hard, and it may have experienced a whole new set of cracks - and of course, need replacement. Gluing these things back together is just asking for a meltdown. The PI kits are good buys, and you can even source some of these parts from junkyards (though this requires that you look for the good parts that match each other, not just more of the same problems you need to get rid of). The good intakes have aluminum front components instead of all plastic. Also, its a good time to swap to PI heads and cams, too, if you get enough $ scraped together.

Hope the clean up crew gets you back on your feet!

thanks for the info guys, the house is coming along, i hope my clutch hangs in there for a while and the weird noise was a belt tensioner(fixed).
