Youll notice more noise with the short shifter compared to the stock shifter. But this is a noise youll hear all the time. Are you sure its actually grinding? If the bump stops arent in the way, then I cant think of anything else it would be.

its like a low low low grind i tightened up everything really tight also another thing the ball on the bottom of the shifter the black thing is suppose to click onto it correct? and not just sit in the little hole the ball goes in. also the stuff thats in the little hole is tran fluid correct? how much is suppose to be in there because its like 1/4 filled when i stuck my finger in it to see how much there was? im wondering if its the little black thing rattling in the hole?

but i reinstalled my old shifter back in and it is doing these sounds also that it has never before. when i pulled the original shifter out it was stuck with the adhsive so i had to jerk it around. u think ic ould have bent something that connects to the gears??

this is exactly what it sounds like u know how if when ur goin to shift u put the clutch in but let off before u go and put it into the next gear and it makes a loud KKKKEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK sound. it sound like that but quieter and only in 4th and 5th gears

I have a feeling that it might be just normal transmission noise. I noticed more noise also until I took the Tri-ax back out on put in the shifter base gasket. I'd imagine you might still hear the noise when you put the old one back on because the old sealing junk isn't resealing. Just my thoughts.
Here's the gasket by the way.

If you are hearing a noise when you are driving around in 4th or 5th gear with an aftermarket shifter, it is normal. If you hear a noise when you SHIFT into 4th or 5th gear with an aftermarket shifter you have a problem. Mine makes so much noise in 5th at low speeds that I think my tranny is gonna blow. This has been that way since around 5,000 miles on my '04 GT when I installed my Hurst shifter. The gaskets linked above HELP but don't eliminate the noise.

I think your right about it just being normal noise. It looks like the AM gaskets are out of stock, but I would suggest getting a Cobra Bob gasket instead. I've had both. http://www.stangshiftergaskets.com/

the thing is that i put my old shifter back on again and it is making those noises also? when i was removing the stock shifter in the 1st place the steeda installation guide told me it was gonna be hard to remove (which was ) so they told me to put the shifter handle back on and push it to one side and lean until it starts to peel. when doing that could i have pulled something out of place or are the trannys pretty solid that stuff cant get pulled out?

It would sound to me that you logically have a problem. Thing is, noise identification on the internet is VERY tough. You should take that car to a tranny person and have it checked out in case more damaged should take place.
