Default Clutch Chatter

Just had a Spec Stage 1 installed on Saturday. When I go in 1st gear the drivetrain starts to shake a bit and I can hear chatter when the windows are up. The second I left off the clutch its fine and smooth. It also does it in reverse. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th are all fine. Any ideas?

I read Spike's clutch threads and he said the chatter went away after the break in period and I also read some others that said the chatter didnt go away. Spike any input? Does this sound exactly like the prob you had with yours?

Drive it gently for 500 miles w/ absolutely no clutch slippage. Should be fine afterwards or at least better. Did you make sure you resurfaced or replaced the flywheel when you installed the clutch?

Then it just needs to be broken in, chatter is normal, at this point. Once broken in, it should be smooth sailing.

weird i posted a reply last night?

Like htye said chatter is noraml during the 450-500 mile break in. after that i let it rip a few times and it really smoothed mine out. I still get some light chatter when the clutch is cold, but i have a Stage 2 so mine is kevlar unlike your organic which shouldnt do that.

So take it easy the full 450 miles and then let it rip. It will smooth out.

Had a SPEC 1 Clutch before..it chattered like you explain it...drove up to 1000 babied miles....still chattered like a ****....said to myself....mayun..forget the crappy *** clutch....bought a Centerforce DUal Friction Clutch...swapped teh biatch out...and the centerforce never chattered at all.....and would buy centerforce again!

SPEC sux...I bet the chatter will not go away so that there is NO chatter at all with ya spec clutch.

well its organic i dont know why if its installed with a new or resurfaced flywheel for it to chatter after the break in period. I almost got a Dual friction centerforce but the cost is so much higher i dont see the point. Heard its a very nice clutch though. But for the money i think the spec is a better deal if some chatter doesnt bother you.

If it chatters, the person who installed it didnt do it right. You shouldnt have clutch chatter when its broken in if its installed properly.

Id just stay away from SPEC as a whole. I know 78978934 others that have had SPEC before and complained about chatter. SPEC simply is worth whats its priced...cheap. Its a hit or miss with SPEC.

Forgot about this thread. I hit about 400 miles on the clutch and decided Id had enough babying. Took it hard to about 120 a few times and never chattered again.

LOL just like i said baby it till the 450 miles then let it rip and it will smooth right out. Mine did the same thing. So how do you like it?

Ok I lied. It was more like 250 miles. I couldnt wait. So far its great. Taking off in 1st is a lot different than stock. The pedal has stayed firm too. I wouldnt say its a lot firmer than stock but noticeable. Definitely worth the money. I didnt realize how bad my stock one was until i went through the gears at full throttle with the Spec

same here when i replaced mine i thought it was holding fine. But i found some light clutch dust and i thought oh well. Then when i broke mine in and ran it hard with the nitrous on it spun the nitto drags hard in 2nd and chirped 3rd. Noramly it just grabbed 3rd. So i guess it was slipping a hair on the bottle in 2nd,3rd, & 4th gear, but only seemed to do it when i changed gears. I guess close to 500ft lbs of tourqe will do that.
