never let the monkeys at autozone run a OBDII on your car. they are not mechanics, just take it too a shop that knows mustangs and have them run a scan or if you live near a murrays autoparts store you can get the OBD II loaned out too you ($150 deposit usually), scan it yourself and do somehome work on the codes.

Huh? Did you reply to the correct post? He didn't say anything about reading codes. I do, however, agree that most AutoZone guys dont have a clue.

The speed sensor is located on the drives side of the tranny (5 speed). Make sure it is plugged in, and the wires are not broken. If that don't fix it, replace the sensor.

Why would the odometer sensor be on the cams? Speed and odometer sensor is one in the same.

edit: I just reread the original post, are you saying the odometer doesn't work at all? What do you mean when say your speedometer is messed up? Does it work at all? As far as I know, the speedometer provides the information for both functions. The odometer reading is nothing more than a calculation of how big your tires are (the distance they travel in one wheel revolution) in relation to however many times the output shaft turns taking into consideration your rearend gear. This calculation is handled by the computer. That's why if you have a handheld tuner, you can alter tire diameter or circumference, and rearend ratio's. This tells the puter what values to plug into the formula. The only variable is the number of turns from the output shaft.

Autozone is full of morons. I went in to buy the brake tool to get the caliper piston back into the caliper and they gave me one that wasn't even for a Mustang and when I called them, they delivered me what was supposed to be the right one, it was the same damn thing. Pep Boys however is great.

150 deposit to borrow? i can buy one for 150 brand new from autozone. but yea i buy the speedsensor from autozone. come home disconnect battery. take out my speed sensor and they rnt the same part. mine was magnetic and the one i bought wasnt. take it back. come home put my original one back in. connect the battery. start the car and leave. look down to check my tach and see how many rpms im at cuz i got it all memorized. like 800 rpms is 25 mph. but then i noticed EVERYTHING works. i guess the computer reset or something with the battery disconnected for awhile. i dont care how it happened. im just happy i fixed it.....for free. its nice now that EVERYTHING on my car works.

you get your 150 back when you return it, or keep it, its your choice. thats why its called a deposit. you're not renting it, basically it makes sure someone brings it back and if they dont, well they just bought themselves an OBDII.

Wow, that's weird. yeah, people at Autozone and Advance auto or some of the others, don't know a wrench from a screwdriver, they tell you what they sorta think/what the computer says. Sometimes they will have a true mechanic that works there, but hardly. Glad it works now!!
