Default Overheating ?

i drove to work tonight and its about 4 miles, i drove pretty hard through town but no more than usual, when i pulled into work i had smoke or steam sprayin from under the hood and oddly enough out of the vents in my hood(didnt think they were open vents)but i parked shut it down and lookied under the hood but the smoke cleared and i couldnt see where it came from, this morn i let it warm up for a half hour and it was fine, drove it home kinda hard and nothing, any ideas what this could of been? its a 97 GT 5sp, no mods except CAI and Flowmasters(keep jokes about the flows to yourself)sorry for such a wordy post guys,my fingers ramble on when im tired. thanx

It could be many things but there is a known problem with the 4.6l with plastic #1 cyclinder runner on the intake. If you have the stock intake manifold it could be cracked by cylinder #1 as mine is. On mine it leaks antifreeze after I shut it down. Get a flashlight and look around the intake and see if you see coolant. If it is that you may be covered under a recall, mine was not. Has any work been done to the car lately? Any fluids on the Floor. Is your AC working?

How often do you drive it hard? I love going fast as much as the next person but there are many trips I take to school over 20 miles and back without going above 2000 rpms. Going hard all the time or even driving hard once each time you get in will slow down your car's life. Think of your car as a human body. We need to warm up for some time before doing anyhard work. And doing hard work is good...to an extent. If we overwork ourself for too long, an injury is very likely. Just take it easy and take it to a mechanic to look at. Just an estimate shouldn't cost you anything.

i rarely drive it hard and only a couple times have i taken to 5000 rpm through the gears and once when tryin to get back in the garage in 6" of fresh snow LOL. i think what happened though as dumb as this may sound.....when i was about to back into my spot at work i revved a few times on a co worker in Z24 backin in also and i think i backed into my own exhaust steam and it was comin from under my car up through everything. this sounds like something my wife would do. thanks for all the advice though fellas.
