I was just wondering what kind of race are we looking at?? I fell in love with the Mustang when my friend gave me a ride in his 89 5.0 and was wondering if the 03 GT 4.6 2V would even stand a chance against that bad *** car???? I'm thinking they were lighter, and had a different Rear End??? What gears did the 89 run with??? Wasn't it the gears that made the car so damn fast??? Can some of you 10years plus mustang lovers fill me in??? Thanks!!!!

In stock trim, the '03 will beat the snot out of the '89. If the '89 was a GT, then the weight is comparable. I know from a HP perspective the '03 has 260 and the '89 has 225 and I think the torque was comparable. The '89 typically had 2.73 or 3.08 reaer gears and the '03 has 3.27 (or 3.23..I forget).. Now, if the '89 had some basic modifications done, then it's a whole different story. The 5.0 responded very nicely to basic bolt on's and timing tweaks. I don;t even know if there are anymore 5.0 out there with the stock gears in them?

 

pretty much what he said, 3:27 gears in the 03 Even with basic mods the 03 would still have an advantage. Not to mention the 03 would kick the 89's a$$ on the slalom too.

As stated above, stock for stock, the 2v will kill the fox. However fox bodies are very cheap to modify so....

 

...and much much much much easier...

Why couldn't they have stuck with that damn pushrod...

Sure wish my 2v could get 85hp out of a head swap...

 

Amen to that.. i wish I could do a head swap in 2 hours like I could with my 5.0..... or a quick cam swap.. or a fuel return line so i could play with my fuel pressure with an allen wrench... Ah, livin in the past
