Default Switched To FIPK and OMG!!!!!!

Ok today I stopped by Delk Performance to buy some MIL's and have the valve on my bottle checked. I noticed they had a used K&N FIPK sitting on the shelf. I had been thinking about switching to the short ram style anyways. I didnt like it because it wasnt chrome but I was too tired of adjusting that MAC CAI. It seems to have a poor fit. I asked the guy if he would do an even swap for my CAI and he said ok. I put the K&N on and it took all of 2 minutes. It fit great and it has a greatly designed heatshield. The heatshield not only keeps heat away but it seals against the hood to promote a "sucking effect" that draws in the air from the fender. I noticed that all of a sudden it idles much better, revs smoother, has better MPG, sounded much better, and it pulled hard as crap just N/A.

I called Delk and asked them why it is running SO much better and they said that the bend before the MAF must have been throwing the A/F ratio way out of wack! Thats scary because ive sprayed it like that for a long time. Now the real scary stuff happened when I opened the bottle.....

I only had the beast sittin on 900psi. I took it to the interstate and gave a real easy shot in 3rd gear for about 2 seconds and it didnt hit hard like it usually does it just GRADUALLY pulled harder and harder for the little RPM's I sprayed it. It reminded me of how that 03 cobra I drove for a little while was. Not to brag.

I wasnt going to spray it anymore tonight but.... I just happened to pull up next to a civic hatchback with a Turbo H22 in it. The story will be posted in smack talk.........needless to say.

Anyways I went from a 40 roll in 2nd gear and the thing is MUCH faster. It ould WHIP a stock 03 Cobra no doubt. It pulled hard as Fugg and I thought the front wheels were going to come off the ground. I know all this seems like BS but if you know what kind of person I am you will know I dont lie. It lost traction at about 5000 rpms and I almost bounced the rev limiter. I shut down after that and didnt spray 3rd.

So ANYONE who is looking to buy a CAI needs to get the FIPK. I promise you it is BADA$$!!!!!

hmm.. do you go to Delk often? I've heard some horror stories...

but yeah, I've also heard a lot of horror stories about CAI with the bend causing problems, I think the K&N's look pretty sweet though

Im very happy with it. It was an even swap for it and I gained so much more performance!

Yea I have heard horrer stories about them too. Thats what I come here and talk to everyone before I do things to my car. They like to run mostly turbos but alot of supercharged and nitrous cars too. They are nice guys to talk to and that what I like about them.

Ha Ha one guy that works there had a Geo Metro w/ a 75 shot of NX and it lasted for 2 years. Thats some damn good tuning abilities. He beat a 5.0 mustang with it. He tried a 100 shot and it popped the motor.

yea anyone with a chrome CAI is just creating heat. not to mention the bend DOES throw off your metering. now all you need is a new fuel pump before that one takes a shiit on you.

I've the FIPK on my last two stangs and love it.....The bad thing is they are notorious for causing stalling on Mach's and I experienced it for the first time the other day. Other than that I'm happy with it.

I'm not sure how the CAI made that drastic of a difference though???

I'd almost switch my CAI's just to try it out but I'm too happy with my dyno numbers to change anything lol

What you are prolly feeling is probably similar to what you would feel had you just switched back to the stock piece lol. Those Macs suck donkey dong.

I will let you know if they have another one. I wouldnt bet on it though because you just dont stumble upon a beautiful used FIPK everyday..... The best part is that they will take yours as an even swap! The market for the chrome CAI's has been getting hot so theylle sell your old one quick for good money.

Man just from experience I wanna give you good advice.... When I had the CAI hooked up to it, the spark plugs were always a LIGHT brown color. Now that the A/F Ratio is gettin the right fuel to it, They are Dark brown to black. If you spray that thing with that CAI.....your gonna be having alot of lean spikes across the rev range. Mine has lasted for going on 2 years like that but it just takes that one special time to blow your ride up. GO GET THE FIPK before you spray it. or at least put the stock piece back on. And Id also have a fuel swich on it if your goin the 100 shot route. You do have NGK TR6 plugs right?

I cant believe a CAI can screw up your A/F ratio that bad.....I think i'lll chance it and spray with it anyways. You survived for a good long while and Spike Africa is spraying 125shot on his.......I think i'll be fine I do have TR-6 plugs. and I just changed the fuel filter, I have a window switch, a tune that retards my timing 2 below stock when I hit 3,000..........I think i'll be fine...Right?...Damn it now you got me all worried

All I can say, is that if you have the money for nitrous, put the car on a dyno and AT LEAST get the a/f reading. Personally, I wouldnt spray crap without a tune for it, but thats just me.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea....and I do have a tune but just to retard the timing and some other small things

That CAI will run the car lean at ALL times even when you spray. I think youll be fine with a timing retard. Youll be missing out on a slew of horsepower though.

If the thing doesnt control the A/F ratio on your car then you DONT have a tune. You just have retarded timing which is a good thing though. A tune corrects ALL lean spikes and tries to get the Power curves as smooth as possible.

My tune runs advanced spark all the way to 2900 and come 3000 it retards it to 2 below stock.......My tune corrects my A/F so its just where it needs to be to run N/A....i'm trusting my tuner which is Nick from MT
