Default My 03 Vert or 03 Mach 1???

Hey guys I need your help. I have an opportunity to purchase a black 5 speed 03 Mach 1 with 18,000 miles on it from a VW dealership for a pretty darn good price and I'm trying to decide whether or not to trade my 03 vert in for it???? The dealership want's to give me $23,000 on the trade in ( I have 27,500 miles on it). The guy at the dealership said it's one of the cleanest mustangs he's ever seen.

The only thing holding me up is the amount of money I have put into mods for my 03 vert, however the owner of the dealership told me I could take the mods off the car and he'll still give me the same amount on a trade in.

The only thing wrong with the Mach 1 is the chin spoiler is beat up and the brake and clutch pedals are gone!! Interesting, but it just so happens I have them on my vert and could replace them.

Should I go for it or not?????

I hope the attached pictures work.

Please help, I need to make a decision fast before it's gone!

Thanks,

Josh

do you have pics of the Mach 1? Generally speaking, I'd say take the Mach 1 and take your parts but that is a nice vert you have there. I know that isn't an answer but good luck in your decision.

Walk away from the car! Brake and clutch pedals don't wear after 18k miles that bad. I would have some issues with the reported miles. sorry. I walked away from a mustang with 11k on the timer for the same reason.

No, no pictures of the Mach 1. Yeah, the pedals not being on the car do worry me a little bit. I can't think of any situation for them not to be there other than the guy had other pedals on it and took them off and didn't put the originals back on. They are still offering the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. I'm still thinking about it, but I'm going to get the vin# and run a carfax on it and possibly call ford to see if they have any info on it. Boy was it fun to drive! There was a significant power difference compared to my GT.

he probably just sold the brake cover but if you are looking for a mach 1 look else where for a clean one. with dealers getting new 05s in you should be able to find one at a good price that is perfect with low mileage.

I would get a well known mechanic to look at it before you bought it.

Alright, here is the deal.
The mach1 is a 32V DOHC engine (aluminum) that I've heard is atleast as good as an 01 cobra but without the clunky IRS.
It's also still under warranty for another 18000 more miles.
You can probably talk the dealership into getting the chin spoiler and pedal covers for you (negotiate this as a condition of sale).
Honestly, you'll never get offered that much $ for your GT ever again.
The Mach1 has cooler seats and gauges anyway.
Do I even need to mention the intake?
The Mach 1 is in more limited production meaning that it is going to hold value longer.
Coupes are lighter, less noisy, more aerodynamic, and generally stiffer (better for handling) than Verts.
The real question is, what's your definition of a "Good Price" for the Mach 1?

According to Ford they are not making the Mach1 again compared to the amount of GT verts the Mach 1 is a better stang to spend your money on not to mention how rare it is on the streets. Further into the future you will be telling this story "I had a chance to get a Mach1 but I was to worried about a few hundred dollars on dress up pieces and I did not get it, man I wish I would of gotten it". :cussing:

Maybe a mach will hold its value a little better but no late model mustang has any collector value anytime soon. That imo should not be a factor.

Do you want a vert or a coupe? You are getting a killing for your trade but what do they want for the Mach? If it seems like too good of a deal there may be a reason for that.

Imo keep the vert and put the top down.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I did get the CARFAX today and it hasn't been in any accidents. The only thing it shows is that the car has had two owners since in two years. That's kinda fishy to me.

They want $22,000 for the Mach. I'm trying to find someone at a Ford Dealership that will run Oasis for me and that will tell me exactly what has been done to the car through Ford. I'm not having any luck though.

I'm thinking that I should start finding a good mechanic to check it out.

Well, I love the vert because the weather is so perfect in the Bay Area, but the Mach is a kick in the pants to drive!

Ha ha....it's like the little guy is on one shoulder saying "power, more power and collectors edition" and the guy on the other shoulder is saying "stay with the safe bet and keep the vert".

Well guys I think I'm just going to be patient until I can find a Mach 1 that I feel comfortable buying. In the mean time 3:73 gears might get me close to the kick in the pants the Mach gave me.
