Default im looking to buy an 01 cobra

im looking to buy an 01 cobra, however i was wondering what the difference between an 01 and on 03 cobra besides the supercharger is? im looking to buy a gray 01 with 48000 miles its a 5 speed (03's are a 6?) and they have it priced at 19,999 however i only want to pay around 17.5 tops
any suggestions info or help on what the differences are, and what a good price is?
thanks

20k for an 01 cobra is waaaayyy too much. Heck i bet you could find a mach1 for a few grand more......
The main difference between the 01 and 03 cobra is the engine. The 03 cobra motor is a fully built engine straight from the factory. Cast iron block, maley rods etc, etc....the stock motor will hold 600+rwhp. If you got the cash for an 03 cobra i'd go for one..

the 01 has the 3650 tranny, the 03-4 has a T-56.
Like 4.6 love said the 03 has amuch stronger motor. and has different 4v heads (yes they are different between the years for those of you who odnt know).
both still have IRS. both have large cobra brakes which are 2 pistons big boys.
different hoods, front & back bumpers, and some more that i cant think of right now.

In case your interested, a guy i know just bought an 01 Cobra had it dynoed right away. Dynoed at 280RWHP with the 5 speed. I think that was with a SCT tune as well but the tuner wasnt happy with the results at all so was goin to re do them

I'm not bias or anything...ha ha....but if your looking at getting an 01 cobra you should seriously consider an 03/04 Mach 1 instead.

An '01 should put down 300 rwhp easy with a few bolt-ons.

I agree with the other guys. 20k is too much for that car. That would be a fair price for an '03 Mach 1 with similar miles. I have seen '03 Mach 1's with less then 10k miles are 22-23k.

Also, '03 Cobra's with low miles are selling for mid 20's.

This summer I saw a very clean '01 cobra with a 100k miles on it at a speed shop for sale for $9,999. I would think that car to be worth 16k before I would move on it.

While Cobra's are great, a stock GT Vert of that same year and miles would run about 13k. Spend 4k on a blower and you got yourself a great ride.....nearly 400 rwhp too.

The Mach 1 engine and the 01 cobra engine are pretty close except the Mach 1 has high flow 4 valve heads, higher compression, new cams, revised calibrations and improved exhaust manifolds......many people say the Mach engine was underated because they didn't want to **** off the SVT following, but who knows.....both cars are great and you can't go wrong with either of them for the right price.

As for the 01 cobra having more hp potential, I don't think so.....I actually think bolt on for bolt on the Mach has more potential

Get the 03 Cobra. I had one for like a week but couldnt get financed for it. It was the baddest car I have ever driven. It was fast as crap. Eats LS1s for breakfast and it was still stock. It was just as fast bone stock as my GT is on the spray. I have yet to race an 03 Cobra but if I can find a stock one (probably not) Ill probably have a good chance with it. Modified 03 Cobras will beat pretty much anything you see on the street from day to day including vipers if you have substantial mods. 01 Cobras have strong motors too but they arent near as fast just because its less a supercharger. Sorry but the 01 cobra has more potential than the mach 1 because it has a much stronger bottom end. The Mach has basically the same bottom end as a GT but with a better crank I think. The 01 cobra has better rods and I think pistons too. Theyre not forged though. The mach uses powdered metal rods I think

The 01 Cobra engine is a damn strong engine, but I don't think it has "more" potential than the Mach engine.....they probaby are pretty close and both respond very well to simple boltons.....I posted a video a while back of a Mach with a Prochamber and drag radials running a 12.5 1/4...that's freaking cooking.

Depending on what your using the car for you also have to look at the suspension and the 01 cobra has independent rear suspension and the mach has a solid axle. I think you get a lot more wheel hop with the IRS

sorry but wrong. They use the same components on the bottom end. They are both higher compression engines with hypereucraptic pistons and powder rods.

A 99/01 Cobra's and 5 speed Mach all have the same bottom end. The differance is in the heads and cams. The Mach engine will make a little bit more power due to the updated heads. Ford does underrate the Mach 4V at 310, its actually closer to 340.

Yes, the 03/04 Cobra is stronger. I don't know if ford underrated the Mach or what, but if I've heard on many different forums that ford did it so they wouldn't **** off the SVT fans. Heck, I don't know and probably really don't care, but whatever car burnmustang desides to get will have a strong motor and have lots of potential. Good luck burnmustang, you can't go wrong with either car.
