Default Insurance

I need help, I'm paying way to much for insurance I think.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good insurance company for me?

I'm 18, and I have a 98 V6.

I'm paying about $396.00 /mo. on my parents plan, which has full liability and collision.

It seems like a rip off so I might be looking to get my own insurance plan. Anyone have any suggestions for what companie(s) to look into?

$396 a month? seriously? Holly crap thats high. A 98 V6 should not be costing you almost 5Gs a year. You should probably look for a different insurance company ro see what is going on. Granted I'm almost 27, but my 2000 V8 is costing me $70 a month full coverage.

I work with various insurance companies every day at work. Stay away from safe auto, the general, and the other fly by night companies. The best I have seen for actually taking care of the insured is Erie and State Farm. The worst by far is Progressive, and Nationwide.

Sounds to me like you've probably got tickets or accidents.. I only know of a handful of my clients who have insurance that high and all of them have some kind of points on their record.

Then again, it depends heavily on your state and your county.. If you live in a "no fault" state then your insurance will be higher than average, but if I was a betting man I'd say you have something on your record.

IF you have a clean record, then that is outrageous. But like WN said, it sounds like you might have some tickets and/or accidents. I live in a no fault state, drive a V8, and was quoted half as much as what you're paying when I was 18.

I've never gotten a ticket, and I've never been involved in an accident.

I think my parents plan just sucks. Its with Liberty Mutual.

I think I'll check around online and get some estimates. Thanks for the help, I thought that my rate was ridiculous.

Erie quotes me $335/mo with full coverage

Geico quotes me $337/mo with full coverage

Allstate quotes $574/mo (!!)

This is getting ridiculous.

My friend spent $6000 on a nice Camaro about a year ago. He only had liability too. He now has full coverage after totaling it and having to buy another car because he didn't have collision. lol.

You could say he was a bad driver, but in the end I feel like the question is "do you trust yourself".

Same!

If I were you I would just go to a Agentcy that helps you find the cheapest car insurance. Mine is called Hect & Hect or something. They find me the cheapest insurance. Try um Progressive, The General, and there is some otehrs I can't think of right now.

If I had to guess I'd say that my company will be more expensive, but it may be worth a try.

Call a Farmers agent and make sure you ask them to give you a quote with both Farmers and Bristol West..

your definitely doing something wrong. Do some research on deductibles your limits are probably extremely low. Also if you call just tell them look I'm 18 all I need is the minimum full coverage I can get. Odds are most 18 year olds don't have much assets so there isn't a need to have high limits. In other words you probably don't have a lot people are going to go after if something were to happen. I've always had Allstate and I'm not even on a partents plan and I'm young and I've never payed anything near that. Texas has high rates as well typically because there are a lot of people driving around with no license or insurance since were close to the boarder

DAYUM! I'm 23, I pay $110 a month full coverage on my '05 GT, and I pay $70 a month (don't know what I have) on my '93 4 banger. I have one ticket on my record. State Farm is awesome, and I mean that.

Check your PM's, Slim.

Just wait until you guys turn 25, you'll be loving it. Still though $300+ a month is ridiculous if you don't have any points on your record. Something's not right. Before I turned 25 and was on my mom's coverage, I still wasn't paying over $100 a month. State Farm here as well.

I had Farmers when i got my mustang but had to switch. I had been with them for 8 years and i got quoted for full coverage on my 07 v6 at 250 a month and that was after i turned 25. They would not give me a straight answer as to why cause i have not tickets or accidents. So i went to geico i pay 120 a month full coverage. Would be even lower to if i had a 3.0 last semester but i f'd that up lol had a freaking 2.89.

Ok, I got them to apply the "good student" thing on my parents, and it gets it down from $396 to about $300. Still pretty bad, but not as bad.

It might have something to do with me living just outside of Philly, not sure though.

wow, maybe dump the full coverage. I dont' see the need for it on a car that is valued at less than 4k. And I am not even paying that much for my cobra. I pay less then half that and have full coverage and $500 deductible and I am 20.
