Default trouble starting

sup guys.i'm having a problem with 2001 cobra, im not sure what it is so here goes.recently ive had trouble starting my car i think it could be the anti theft system.when it doesnt start i get out and jiggle the wires hooked to the - terminal on the battery, its a new battery.i know the ground is hooked up there is the other wire for the antitheft.when i jiggle the wires the lights and stuff come on in the interior and i try to start it and it will do the same thing over and i just keep messing with it and it will finally start, but last night my wife drove it and it did it to her, so she had someone jump her off and now the service engine light is on and the problem has gotten worse. im not sure where to start i was going to change the groundto a thicker gauge wire but im not quite sure what the other wire is ,is it for the antitheft any help would be great

I had a similar situation with my '93. I'd get in to start it, it would only click. I got out, fiddled with the wires, and I could see my hood light come on. I'd go to start it again and it would click. It was like it was dead. I thought it might be a bad connection between the terminals and the wires, so I got some WD40 to clean the corrosion off the wires and it was fine after that.

Sounds like your battery cable is very loose is bad and need to be replaced. First thing I would do is pull out a volt meter and start figuring out if there is a problem with the positive and ground cables.
