Thumbs down Tax Free Craze

Man, Tax Free weekend here in Texas is absolutely insane! We have a lot of stuff Tax free for back to school shopping. I had to get out and run some errands today and I thought I was going to die. The busiest intersection here in town has a camera that tickets you for running the light, and this thing is newly put in, so people act all crazy in the intersection now. People stop as soon as it goes yellow, and people seem to be too dumb to go as soon as it turns green. So all of that to say that I was about 100 yards away from the light to start with, and I had to sit through 4 revolutions at the intersection before I got through it. Anybody else scared to go out to go out on weekends like this?

And I edited this. I know some states don't have tax free weekends.

Tax free weekend? Is that a Texas thing or something. We have no such thing in Cali....as a matter of fact it probably would be the complete opposite here....Double your tax weekend.

Oh haha, I didn't think about that. yeah, it's a Texas thing, but a lot of states do it about this time of year. It's aimed at clothes, school supplies. It's supposed to make back to school shopping cheaper.

there should be a SIN TAX FREE day here in PA (alcohol is taxed here...you start with the price of the alcohol, add a percent for alcohol tax (sin tax), then add the state sales tax (6%)). Because PA is a commonwealth, the govt here can do lots of things "states" cant....gay!

We have it here in TN every year. It's a nice break from the 9.5% sales tax.

Yeah tax free weekend here was 2 weeks ago. It's a good thing for school supplies, clothes, even computer stuff up to a certain amount. My wife went and got all the kids stuff for the new school year. Plus I got some new socks. But it does cause a frenzy at the malls, and walmarts around here. I would pay the extra money in taxes to avoid all that crap. I hate shopping when there's so many idiots in the stores, and on the roads.. You'll see more dumbasses on the road than I can tolerate..

Tax free weekend is crazy, the whole area around the mall here is jam-packed with people. I went shopping with my Girlfriend Thursday night becuase I'd rather pay the 8.25% then fight through all the crowds. I have to drive cars over to Sears, connected to the mall, to have them serviced. It is hard to get through all the shoppers.

Ours was the 1st weekend in August here in Georgia. I went to Walmart late at night to do a little bit of shopping. It still sucked.

At least I paid no taxes.

we have some companies that will have promotions that basically pay the sales tax for you so we don't have to pay, but it's usually at furniture stores or something like that. Our State has a deficit of $17 BILLION so I don't think that would it would work here.

Some of you probaby have really high sales tax rates like in Chicago, but do you have property taxes or state income taxes? Chicago might, but some states with high sales tax don't have other taxes....suprisingly Cali has them all. ha ha ha.

Massachusetts had "taxfree weekend" on August 15th/16th. It applied to items $2500 and under.

Wifey and I placed an order for new kitchen appliances ( stove, microwave and fridge) the day before and just walked in with the check. I saved $187 in sales tax.

what the hell are you guys talking about?!? They actually raised our sales tax two years ago. I've never heard of having a tax free day! They don't give us **** for free out in this desert. I think we pay for oxygen too, and that's taxed as well!!!!!

ey

They'd probably do that here in Colorado too. I know they've already hiked up a lot of prices for the DNC.
