I Am Confussed? need tire size help
ok so im poor and i decided to buy my rims in stages rear first then front...
i order my rear today
Chrome Deep Dish FR500 Wheel 94-04 (17x10.5) with the
NITTO Extreme Performance NT555R Drag Radial (315/35-17)
**note the tire size**
now im looking at the front rims and tire package and something isnt right
i plan on buying
Chrome FR500 Wheel 94-04 (17x9) with
NITTO Extreme Performance NT555 Tire (255/40-17)
they are only offered in a 40 there is no 35.....is this going to look ok or do the drag radials measure differently than other tires.
also i thought on a 98 i could run 275's up front but the website says 99 and up.. any help or pics would be appreciated.

the second number in the tire size is the aspect ratio, not a straight up distance measurement. so, in 255/40/17, the "40" is 40% roughly, of the width(255)
so the height of the sidewall in a 255/40/17 is 40% of 255
a 315/35/17 would be a sidewall height roughly 35% of 315
so the height of the sidewall in a 255/40/17 is 40% of 255
a 315/35/17 would be a sidewall height roughly 35% of 315
the 315/35 isnt going to have a small sidewall its going to match up just fine against the 40 series tire.
if you put 2003-2004 cobra A-arms on your 98 you can run a 275 tire up front. i think they are only 100 bucks for a set
