I can do it for about 1000 bucks minimum cost. That's assuming a nearly free engine. 2K is right at the minimum for a basic swap plus all the little odds and ends. It's 100% totally doable but you have to do a lot of the work yourself. That's not a problem since it's totally kick *** easy to swap a motor in these cars.

So yeah, YOU ARE 100% CORRECT. It's is very possible but it takes work and patience.

My swap including motor has about 6500 bones in it. That's a fully built motor, adapter plates, clutch, exhaust, cams, ported heads, fuel rails, injectors, intake, odds and ends and labor including blueprinting the motor, all machining and all parts.

Tell the haters they ought to check in on our 5.4 swap thread and talk to the 10+ peeps doing it or done with it already.

FWIW, I would have originally only spent 900 bucks on mine. That's all the parts that I started with (complete motor and adapter plates and clutch) cost and I was planning on doing all the work myself. It would have come in under a grand but I wanted to be able to do boost, nitrous, and hard racing with no worries.

simply ignore the troll with the stock 97 GT. If he doesn't believe you fine, but don't let it stop you from helping people out

if he wasn't such an *** about it I would never have posted but he's clearly ignorant and hate filled so a little slap from someone with a 5.4 seemed appropriate.

dude, ive been reading into reds 5.4l swap, im getting pretty stoked on it and really want to do it.

been trying to research it, but all my searches usually come up with r3d telling people about it.

The problem is that nobody wants to admit it is a good idea.

i really think i could do it myself, my buddy has an cherry picker and i have another friend who has rebuilt some engines, im pretty positive i could have this accomplished in about 1,500 if i find a great deal on a block, and that will net me about 50whp and a buttload of torque for about the same price as full exhuast.

one thing i have noticed is r3d's efforts to educate people on this generally seem to result in hostility and a lot of people who have done nothing more than bolt on an intake slam you and say you dont know what yer doing.

it seems the culture with the 4.6l 2v's is that boltons, boost, spray, that is the end all of options available. a 5.4 swap to them seems to be a terrible idea, probably because they are afriad to do an engine swap, while in reality it is nothing too difficult. My buddy who has never dont anything like that before had swapped out his 392 in his blazer with a 454 with the help of 1 friend with just basic tools and a cherry picker.

in the end, brass tax talks, and when somebody can suggest a mod that will bring more than 50whp and 60-80ftlbs and is realistically achieveable for 1,500 if you are careful and take your time gathering the parts, well, so far i cant think of a single mod that could possibly beat the 5.4 swap.
Everything can be done in a single day with basic tools and an engine hoist which really arent all that outrageous in price. could even borrow one or rent one.

Both you guys sounded smart. I wish I knew what you guys were talking about, it sounded intense. Im new here, I don't even have a mustang yet, im getting one this weekend though. I hope I can learn as much about the mustang as you guys. It's my dream car, im so excited for this weekend. Btw, im sure someone will ask. Its a 97 black 5 speed manueal v6. pretty basic, but its a mustang. The first thing i am going to do is detail it, tint the windows, than add rims, than i was looking into adding the verticle door mod. I'm 18 and don't know jack about cars, so this is where it starts for me. I love this community.

dont feel bad, it is a great place to start.

honestly, when i first bought my mustang i couldnt even point out the headers. lol

most of what i learned was on here, and a lot of learn by fire on fixing up an 84 civic and turning it into a commuter.
