I have a 98 Gt convertible with auto tranny. The car is stock with no mods. The problem I'm having is sometimes when I am coming to a stop, as the tranny downshifts into 1st gear, there is a noticeable clunk, the faster I slow down, the worse it gets. Also transmission is sluggish shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to OD during hard acceleration. Is it in need of a rebuild, it has 126k miles....thanks

 

Could just need a simple fluid and filter swap. Its hard to guess without seeing it or smelling the tranny fluid in person. How old is the fluid/filter?

 

i have changed the fluid and filter hoping that was the problem, but it still acts the same after the change. If i needed a rebuild would it be cheaper to buy a new tranny ready to bolt in. A local shop here wants 1200-1400 to do a rebuild.....thanks
