Well, if any of you have seen my other thread, I'm planning on moving into an apartment in the next few months.

I've been doing some research on TV's. First off, I'm going to be having basic cable, so the HD I do receive will be over the air.

I'm debating between:

1.) 27" Samsung 4:3 screen HDTV Slimfit (CRT) - $521.99
2.) 30" Samsung 16:9; HDTV Slimfit (CRT) - $598.99
3.) 32" Samsung LCD (Latest model) - $986.79
4.) 32" LG LCD - $899.99


My main question: For those of you who have or have seen CRT TV's that are HD compatible, is the HD pretty good?

I know the LCD will offer a much better picture with HD, but it's only going to be over the air so I won't have that much HD channels to begin with.
And also, I don't know if I want/can spend that much on a TV.

The TV's are ranked in order of the most likely I would get.

I was in sams club last month and watched a 54" DLP flat screen set up. And it was very impressive. It's the mirrors I'm guessing. I was standing about 25ft away from it too.. I personally have a 32" Sharp TV with some HDTV capabilities. And it does ok, But not as good as some stuff I've seen on display. High dollars= better TV...

 

i had a the slimfit 27" and i got it as a open box item off the floor showroom. Its a good tv and looked really awsome but mine died after 5 days. Could of been because it was an abused floor model. I ended up with a 27" insignia flat tube HDTV. its really nice and wasnt to much money either.

 

How's the over the air HD on it????? That's my big question.

 

dont have HD yet (college kid with roomies) but it does look awsome on my freinds xbox360 1080i format.

 

Sweet. I'm leaning towards the 30" Slimfit so when I recieve HD it will already have the 16:9 screen and not the 4:3 screen the 27" does

 

i would do #3...we just bought a 42" Samsung...although plasma (LCD is better) it gives an amazing HD picture. And its really good with xbox 360.

I recommend a samsung TV...the color is so vibrant

 

I have an Insignia 27" HDTV Flat tube CRT, The HD looks pretty good on it, 4:3 1080i like most low cost HDTV's.

My TV is pretty much identical to this one on your list:

Cept the "slimfit" part, Insignia is a Best Buy name but they are made by Samsung

Samsung is a really good brand for TV's

LCD's are really nice and easy to fit places since there so small. Roommate and I are getting a LCD HDTV for the dorm. Basically I think you will like any LCD better than a Tube not only because of picture quality but the amount of room you save.

 

I got the Sony WEGA which is supposed to be HD ready. Never actually hooked up an HD signal to it though so I couldn't say. The normal picture is really good though and it does 4:3 or 16:9 and I got it new at best buy for under 400.
