Default Functional Hood Scoop?

I have a 04 gt, and everytime I look at the hood scoop, I ask the question if there is a way to make it functional. Maybe you guys could answer my question. Is it possible and if so, have you ever seen it done?

I'm sure you can make it functional. The biggest problem is you would have to physically drill a hole in the hood under the hood scoop. I guess another problem is you would have to have a custom kit going into the TB, for I don't think there is a kit out there for that.

LOL Would be better just to change the hood or get the Mach 1 Shaker system.

i've been looking into this for a couple weeks now. there is a company that used to make a kit that would make the stock hood functional i have pics on my comp at home. they stopped making it when the mach 1's came out though. im looking to make one myself for my car, not for any power gains though. i just want to have a functional hood instead of the huge non-functional scoop.

04MustangGT - what speeds have you had your car up to since you cut up your hood? and for about how long? the only reason i havent cut mine yet is because i dont want it to fly up when im driving down the highway.

well I know MT has some kinda ram air kit. I guess if you could somehow make the ram air opening behind the scoop grill, it could be functional kinda.

Kinda off topic...

Do I need to worry about anything getting in my Mach 1 hood scoop? Such as rain...

I'm not sure the technicalities, but I'm pretty sure its designed to either not take rain in, or if it does, it won't do damage. The 03/04 cobra hood also is functional but wont damage the engien in rain, so I'm sure you're fine

actually the kit that i saw had 3 water traps in it and an airbox so that the air was directed directly into the filter instead of just aimed in the general direction. it also had another entrance into the airbox which was from the fender but as soon as you started moving above a certain speed it closed that and air came in through the hood.

im not buying one, but i thought about making one. i would definitely make water traps. the only thing i have worried about is the scoop flying off when cruising down the highway.

Yeah, what Spike said. You have drain holes so there is nothing to worry about.

I drilled into my hood and sanded down the area, ive gone 138 and the hood scoop didnt come off but it shook as much as it does at 80. Just gotta make sure its on there tight though.

That happened to a guy I know...he bought his GT off some guy who cut out the scoop grill and the thing flew off on the freeway, now he has the shaker system.

if you did do it, you may want to make sure you will have to route the air under the hood to where your intake is...not really worth it in my opinion
