Flame suit is on Just read about this post on the other side and had to check it out and say hello. I am very much into the Mustang and have owned several, just kind of like the evo for now. C6C6CH3vo 's information and others is very accurate. Only the 06 evo will run a 12 second pass stock though. I have owned an 03, 05, and 06 evo. If you guys want some inside dirt on these cars give me a shout. In the right hand they can be quick, but so can a Mustang. I think it is a mods game. Anyone in the Port St. Lucie, Florida area? We've got a few very fast Mustangs that meet up locally on Saturday night. Take care guys and see ya at the track

Jack The Ripper- I have heard that also, but have never had any experience with the problem nor has anyone I know. I do know the factory knock sensor is very sensitive though and all the tuners look for less than 1 volt. Anything more than that and the ecu will pull timing, etc. I raced my 03 at the track for a year and never experienced it, my 05 was left basically stock and never had a problem with the knock sensor either. My 06 has 15 passes at the track and I've yet to have a problem with it either. Hard to believe some of the stuff on the web unless you experience it yourself.

Icefreezen-send me a pm and I'll let you know where we meet up on Saturday's in Fort Pierce. There is generally a handfull of LS1's, Mustangs, etc. Most all of the Stangs are older coupes, but all are 10-11 sec cars

Wow I dont know if I can hang with 10-11 sec cars I'm a high 12 if I try....I still wanna test this knock theory.

saw this on a different board, i own an 03 evo, lightly modded, also have a 65 fastback that my father and i are almost done restoring, so i m against mustangs(was thinking bout buying a new 05 or 06), someone said all you have to do is hold it to the limiter and dump the clutch to luanch em . nothing could be farther from the truth, awd's take a lot more skill to get out of the hole then any other format, i have yet to see someone dump the clutch and not bog down and fall on its face. i have raced a few different stangs in my car with only a ecu flash, air filter, and cat delete, and havent had an issue yet, one was a 93 cobra r lightly modded, another was a 96 cobra with a good deal of mods ran 13 flat at the track(put 10 cars on him from a dig upto 130mph), and another fox body cobra. mustangs are great cars and i have a lot more respect for them then most cameros and trans ams, mustangs like evos are the bang for your buck cars in there class. and as far as the opening post, yeah you should beat a stock 04 evo with your mods and a properly placed 75-100hp shot

Again it depends on the 04 mods, stock 04, typically yes, but depends on driver. An 04 with alcohol injection and general bolt-ons (10.5 turbine housing, cams, exhaust, mbc, tune) can easily run throughout the 11's.

Icefreezen- Come on over and we'll test the knock theory

bybysti- This statement makes no sense- "another was a 96 cobra with a good deal of mods ran 13 flat at the track(put 10 cars on him from a dig upto 130mph" You must mean you ran him on the street because an 03 evo with those mods will never run that mph in the 1/4. And if you got a Cobra by 10 cars from the dig, he was either sleeping at the wheel or not racing

As far as the topic of Sense knockers, if you want to beat an evo not running stand alone its easy:

Make sure you're cammed with a good deal of lift and run open exhaust. The noise will pull timing and add fuel. Make sure you keep the racket consistant because the evo will recover in a second. If you keep it noisy long enough he will have to reset the battery to run the proper maps.

we suffer from something called AWD drivetrain losses at higher speed.
we need a bigger turbo to compensate for those losses.....

for example take a GT35R powered EVO and put them up against some modded 03-04 Cobras

http://srvidz.vidiac.com/Player.aspx...E2C57E2AA9&p=1

or put it up against a modded Z06

Not too bad huh?

I'm new to the awd thing also.... My best 60' time was a 2.0 on the EVO, first time out.... I did horribly and need more practice....

people on the EVO forums were telling me I'm gonna have a hard time launching even with my AWD, especially with my Tq.

A guy I know made about 330 TQ and was still having traction issues off the launch...so he had to lower his tire pressure to like 22 psi all around....

I mainly built my EVO for the street though.... thats where I spend most of my time.

The Evo has never lost a shootout with the STI. The Evo is far superior.

This guy must have been stupid. Launching is one of our strengths.......

Stock evos, esp 03 and 04's are kinda lacking and undertuned from the factory but they respond very well to basic mods. Allthough the car can easily pull a 1.8 or less 60ft, if the driver can't launch, it's over.

So if your opponent is stock and/or can't launch or shift, you will have the greater chance of winning, but it depends on your driving too.

100% true. This is the most accurate post so far....

You could keep up with us. As with anything, its all a money game. We spends thousands on our cars. We enjoy beating the v-8's with our little 2L engines. We do get beat an equal amount of time too. No body wins them all......

Apparently if you had a good V8 with straights or Loudmouth exhaust that you could rev up to about 5500rpm and pop it a few times and it could actually trip the evo's knock sensor and shut down thier ride.

ever hear of anything like that? its been circulating quite a bit.

This is actually funny. To think your loud car 30 feet away is louder than my engine running withthe knock sensor burried in my block is dumb. Even if you could make my knock sensor register 3v, all that would happen is the pulling of 2 degrees of timing. This is the best one yet!!!:loser:

Aint that the truth all cars have a strength and a weakness I have yet to see the perfect all around car....some cars have a strength from a dig and some off the line....sometimes it is a money thing and sometimes its a driver thing.

Default the truth...

you guys didnt stir things up, i just thought you might like to know the unbiased truth. Everything i posted is true. All cars are great, dont matter what you drive, its that you drive. How do your cars do on the road coarse??? Are the suspensions tight??? Whats the largest size engine??? I love the new look, especially that o.d. metallic green with the black stripes...I wanted to buy one, i just couldnt resist a car that can beat a 360 fererri on a road coarse and the quarter....i think this is the best all around car. World class suspension and sick launches. My best is a 12.4 @ 118mph. See you around the track someday.... Ray in Tucson................
