What should the car do in the 1/8?
Just for the hell of it.. What should my car do in the 8th mile?
Keep in mind, it has sumi's and the track is probably going to be pretty green, we've gotten a **** load of rain for the last few days.. Probably going to be about 55* tomorrow as well.
Probably not going to run tooooo hard, but I'd like to get a little bit of a feeling for what it's got.
I've never drag raced, only circle track, but I've got a lot of experience in that side of it.
Mods. MGW Short Throw Shifter, 3.73 FRPP gears, Maximum Motorsports Bilstein shocks/struts, H&R Race springs, HD rear lower control arms, full length sub frame connectors (weld in), rear axle tubes welded, rear torque boxes reinforced, Dragon 75mm throttle body, Dragon intake plenum, Steeda cold air intake, VRS O/R X pipe with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers and Flowmaster Axleback, 17x9 & 17x10.5 FR500 wheels with 275/40/17 & 315/35/17 Dyno Tuned by Tim Barth @ Modular Powerhouse.
So, what do you think?

What's the exact schedule for tomorrow? Why the hell are they starting so early?

Well, it was definitely a fun day! Got to make a couple of passes with mustangrn! The track pretty much sucked, it rained this morning (and for the last 4-5 days) plus it was no higher than about 50* and they didn't prep the track at all. No sticky put down whatsoever.
My best R/T was in the .6's and best 1/8th of 9.28, spinning all the way to the top of 2nd. I could not hook up at all. I'll post up some slips in a bit.
For a benchline, mustangrn was running 9.1's in her gt with a little better tires.
The car ran great and definitely has got more in it, just got to get it to the ground. Overall I'm pretty pleased for never drag racing before.

BTW: I did manage to pull a 2.248 60' which IMHO is not too shabbie because I was seriously spinning allll the way through 2nd gear even up to about 6k..
Gonna post the slips in a min.

Wow dude, please GTFO of my thread. I really don't need or want your negativity.
#18
what negativity??? i'm being honest. sticky tires improved my 60' time by a whole second.
pluse, r/t doesn't really matter unless you are going heads up against someone for the win. if its just a test and tune day just concentrate on getting off the line the right way.

LOL, this is the first slip.. Me and mustangrn were the 3rd set of cars on the track and it was my first pass ever on a drag strip. Needless to say I basically just did a really long burnout about half way down the track. hahah!
This was probably my 4th or 5th pass, finally got a little bit of hook and had my best pass. BTW: I was racing a pretty trick Camaro SS with stickies.. lol

I guess she needed a beat down to loosen the grandma driving gunk that may have built up inside the engine. man, Im just glad the parts on that car are getting used like they were supposed to. and you know you arent going to break a RLCA or the axle housing...and those torque boxes are never gonna tear. I never planned on drag racing the car, but when I was at Modular Powerhouse, Tim was basically like, "hey while we are in there you wanna strenthen all of Ford's rear end weak points?" I said sure thing of course...

Oh man, the rear end felt strong.. Even burning through 1 & 2nd. I'm quite sure that the car will definitely be in the 8's with sub-2.0 sec 60' with a dry, sticky track and some better tires. I'm definitely going to order a clutch quadrent for it this week, my shift times were a little on the slow side. Especially getting it into second 'cause if you don't get the clutch pedal to the floor it ain't going into second at WOT.
This track literally had no sticky sprayed on it, I honestly don't even know how the outlaw cars were making passes.. The only extra grip was a little rubber laid down by us and radial rubber doesn't do anything.

Update:
Went back out to the track tonight, slightly better conditions it was about 60-65* and the track was just slightly tackier.
Found one major issue today, the passenger side rear tire had nearly 50# of pressure and the driver was about 45#.. I have no idea why in the hell it was so high, have to ask Dave that. lol So I lowered the pressures down to about 25#.
Didn't get any slips tonight, but it ran a 9.05. Not exactly what I was looking for, but that's a decent pick up, about .2 from last time's best run.
The Sumi's are really holding me back, just can't get any traction with them. I tried a couple of low-rpm launches and hooked decent, but as soon as I hit second I was blowing the tires off the car again, got a little inky a couple of times too.. I think it will probably be in the 8's when I get the new quadrant and firewall adjuster in (shift times are pretty shitty with the stocker), and hopefully somewhere in the mid to low 8's with some Hoosiers on the rears.
Just for a baseline, I actually beat a later model (06-07) Subrau WRX tonight. It wasn't an STI, it was the WRX premium 4-door. He kicked my *** off the line, had me by a car length or so, but I reeled him back in when I hit 3rd, was a damn good race.

Get yourself a decent set of drag radials, and just work some more on the launch to improve the 60'. I don't see a relatively stock GT (by that I mean, no heads/cam/intake work, or means of induction) cutting 60's extremely low or anything, but I could see a 1.9 or something coming out of it.
Also, engineman312, or whatever your name is.. 1/8th mile is generally what matters. Its the most technical part of the drag race.
Anywho WNR: its nice and cold out still, so your best times will be seen now, I do believe, just get yourself some sticky tires to cut that 60' down and you'll see a much better end result. Not bad for your first times out at the drag strip though. (Think you said you hadn't been before?)

I plan on getting some things going here in the next couple of weeks, need to get the nitrous set up and get the car re-tuned because it's still running just a little bit lean. I plan on being in the mid to low 7's by the end of the summer though for sure.
Actually been focusing on getting some handling mods done because I'm planning on running the open track event at the Super Speedway later in the year. Just scored a Steeda rear sway bar a couple of days ago and I've got Steeda X2 ball joints/Cobra A-Arms/MM End-Links waiting to be installed.
LMK if you head out to Beech Bend, I'd love to get back on the 1/4 soon.
