Shift points

Hey guys i have been to the track before but not with the stang yet. I have a 07 v6 manuel. My question is what are some recomended shift points while doing the 1/4 mile? I was thinking around 5500 to 5800 rpms. or maybe earlier. The track here is opening in march so i just wanna be ready for the track!

i have an auto and i set it to shift out at 5800, but u may want to keep it around 5500 to be on the safe side,

and another thing, if ur dragstrip is like mine, the water box is unavoidable so i have to drive through it and if u shift too hard going into second you will lose traction which will slow u down, i know when i put shift pressure up it screwed me..

5500 RPM

lol, come to gulfport.

anyone who runs street tires hates the track, but the nearest alternative is a 2 hour drive..

jon2325 02-11-2009 05:43 PM

i can try.. but i dont think the officials are gonna like me sticking a camera out the window to get a pic while i'm trying to stage... and u cant get a good view from the grand stands but i'll try...

One that I go to is like that. The water box goes completely across the lanes. And the one lane that has enough room to get one wheel out of the box, they sweep all the trach, rubber and crap to. So you have to go through the box, just gotta do a short burn-out to get the crap off.

thanks guys. Na the waterbox is avoidable at the strip here

Moroso is the same way you have no choice but to go threw water. As for the shift points you got to experiment to see what works best. You should if I remember correctly shift at your peak torque number or is it when you shift you end up on peak torque for best performance? I don't remember.

i have been playing around and seems to be in the 5500 range when i should shift.

hmmm... all the waterboxes at my four local tracks are avoidable. I've only seen videos of tracks that the waterboxes are unavoidable.
