Default 400hp GTO my ****....

First time at the local 1/8 in my 2003 GT, untouched engine compartment, flowmasters the only thing done to the car besides tires. Traction control off, which took my times down nearly 3/4 of a second.

After like 6 runs with traction control on running in the low 10's I try it with it off, a brand new GTO happens to be next to me, this is just test and tune wednesday. Smoked him by a whole car with these times, pretty sorry I must say for a 400hp car running against a 275ish hp car.

Track temp was 113 with a asphalt temp of 135, so the anouncer said, it was deffinately hotter than hell.

R/T .756
60' 2.2
330 6.2
1/8 9.5
MPH 75

First time out with this car, next time Ill get my R/T down where it should be, but as far as I can tell GTO's suck, why I dont know, but for 400hp they dont run for crap.

r/t .388
60 2.3219
330 6.2099
9.3929 1/8
77.85 mph

how wide are the tires you were running

backs are 315/35 17 and front 275/40 17.

You run with traction on or off?....It was sodamn hot, all the big cars and bikes where everywhere trying to stay on the track. I didnt have any traction problems, they broke free just enough on launch so nothing breaks and did nicely.

i could not hook up!! in second the rear end wanted to come around. it was 88 deg. here. i'm running 245/45/17's (the 18's cost to much so it runs on the stocks). i don't have traction control. i only got 10's (10.1, 10 flat) when i missed second and roasted first and half of second. this was my first time but for sure not my last.....

buy you some of the cheap Sumitomos like I have $110 for each back tire, they did real well for being so cheap.

yeah your 60' sucks. but give it time. the more you go the better you will get. try leaving the line at 3k and slipping out the hole most GT's seem to love this way.

dont forget about lowering your tire pressure. when i put on 275's i didnt pick up any time in my 1/4. i think the weather had a role it was real thick with moisture. i had stock goodyear gatorbacks at 20 psi get me to a 13.5 i think my 60ft was 1.88, thats with no tune and 3.73's. with 275 DR i only made it to 13.6 and that was with a predator tune (weather foggy). i also tried 245 DR and i got the sametime as my stockers a 13.5 with the predator tune. i need a custom tune bad. i'm not gonna mess with the mail order tunes anymore.

the lackluster design of the thing is what really bugs me. There is nothing there that stands out. The ONLY cool thing on the GTO is the GTO badge.

It is just a boring looking sedan with an overpowered engine that cant seem to get any speed.

I agree on all points. I will say though, It has very nice bolstered seats and better than average pontiac interior .A friend has a 04. It has the LS1 instead of the LS2 in the 05 models but still has 350hp and 360tq stock and a 6speed. I drove not long after he got it. I let the rpms come up to about 2k in 2nd gear and punched it, didnt really pull hard till about 4K and the transmission is heavy and notchy to shift. My automatic 01 GT with just a couple boltons, would run right with it up to about 100 and then he would start to pull away slowly. I can't see paying sticker price for it.

well also the 350hp 04 modle ant to fast.

but the 05 modle with 400 will walk a lightly modded stang. i barely beat an 05 from a roll. he said all he had was catback in intake. I was not spraying on him.

the new 05 with the 6.0l LS2 is fast. I went to the track last week and a bone stock one was running 13.2's all day long, like many said above It's all on the driver.

I have only seen a couple of 04's at the track and they were absolute dogs. They were automatics and ran well into the 14's with a couple of 15's. Not what I expected at all. That being said, with a gear change, high stall speed converter and sticky tires they would be a handful at the track. I assume the 05's are a solid mid 13 second car.

13s are fast??

Oh, and to the question above... NEVER run down the track with your traction control on. It will only hurt your times. Especially if you chirp a tire.

13's are relatively fast for a stock street car. Alot of people post up about how fast their 99-04's run stock, very few can back it up in the real world. 13's on street tires is easier said then done.

A couple of years ago MMFF took and new 03 to the track and were only able to get a 13.99 out of it. This was a stock 5 speed on street tires, they dropped the front sway bar, pulled the spare and jack. They ran a nearly empty tank of gas and dropped the tire pressure. The editor who drove is a very skilled driver and he does not go easy on a car. I myself could not get my automatic 02 to go any faster than 14.5's stock, true this was in the heat of August but even corrected it only ran 14.3's. Personally I have never seen a stock 99-04 hit a 13 at the track. I'm not saying it can't be done just that I have not seen it done. I have seen a whole crapload of PI GT's run mid to high 14's to low 15's.

I ran 13.98@97 in my 5 speed 99 GT when it was bone stock. My sister ran 14.20 in her auto 01 GT. As for the GTO, dont get cocky and think that all GTO's are dogs cause a guy at the track didnt know how to drive his... Either 04 or 05 GTO will walk a lightly modded GT. The 04 GTO was about as fast as the 04 Mach 1 and you know who will win between a Mach 1 and a GT...

The GTO's I have seen run had serious traction issues, no doubt with some adjustments they would have run much better. I would like to see one of the new one's run with some drag radials and a good driver.

there is a local guy here who runs a 150 shot on drag radials in a stick shift one and it goes like 12.2. and there is a 04 with drag radials,200shot,convertor and exhaust that goes 10.8's i think it is.

my ex roommate was a big pontiac guy so i heard about them alot. i think they look pretty good too. but i am to die hard ford ot leave them. both of my vehicals so far have been fords.
