Illegal Street Racing
well ive never really been too heavy into street racing ill push my car wen the mood is rite and ill fool around with friends some times but thats pretty much it. the other night i was at a macdonalds at like 3 in the morning and 2 kids come up with an sti and asked if i wanted to go to this place in newerk called "the hole" with is just a big dead strip of road with like 100 cars lined up and if you wanna race you race. i went but it wasnt goin on cause there was construction about 200 yards away not in site but the cops would hear the noise. but i might go this weekend. what do you guys think about this? im a little on the fence because it will be really fun but on the other side it could be bad. ive heard from a friend that cops show up somewhat often and everyone just goes nuts an bounces. he said hes heard of people totaling thier cars trying to get away and also if you get caught by a cop you get a big street racing ticket and your car could be impounded. now that im typeing it out it sounds like theres more bad than good what do you guys think? have you ever had any experiences with this kind of stuff cause i havent and im curious.
thanks

I didn't read one single reason to go. I've street raced, i'll admit. A group of friends and I would gather in a parking lot adjacent to a nice two lane access road. Almost never any other cars on the road late at night, so we would race. One night there were about 15 of us racing, I raced twice and won both. Right when we started to leave two cops begin to come into one of the roads to the parking lot. About 10 cars were heading right in thier direction (the parking lot whe're in has two entrances, one leads to the access roads is way the other leads to a park, the one the cops were coming in from) The cops block the road and stop everyone of them. Meanwhile I am still in the parking lot with two other cars beleive it or not, I'm doing doughnuts while the cops are flashing the red and blues over across a soccerfield stopping all of thoes cars. My friends yell to me "COPS COPS!!" One of the cops are coming towards the parking lot we were in. We still had a way out, so we took it. I got the heck out of there, then realized that I didn't have my headlights on, turned thoes on when I got out of sight of the cop. We drove down some little roads and then parked behind a building. I don't think the cop was trying to chase us but if we had stayed in the parking lot he would have got us. We called some of the people that got caught, they only got a warning. We don't gather anymore to race. It's not safe. I wrote a paper this past semester over street racing, got an A lol. If you go to the "hole" even if you don't race, your asking for the cops to come and give you a ticket or impound your car. Don't go.

A few buddies of mine and csledd here from the forums head to our local tracks (local as in anywhere from an hour to 2.5 hrs away). It's fun, safe, legal, and no cops. Occasionally, we get the nimrod who thinks they're all bad and crap and we put em in their place. But most of the time, we have fun at the track where it's safe. Think of it like this, ask yourself, is it worth going to jail, losing your ride, or losing your life or someone else's if something goes wrong. It isn't. Yeah it's fun to go out and race but do it where it's safe and legal. Trust me, you'll have fun at the track.
Here's a story to think about. A woman who use to work for me had a niece who died cause some guys wanted to street race. It was on an interstate and one of the guys lost control of his car at an excessive speed, bumped into the side of her car, sent her car off the road flipping, killing her instantly. Think about it......it doesn't pay to street race. You may think you have control but you might not and you can't control the other person. Just my .02

Group street racing is retarded might as well call the cops yourself and tell them where you are. Now having a little fun when your driving around isnt bad but groups is a good way to get multiple people hurt.
#7
I wouldn't do the whole group street racing thing. Thats just dumb. Leave it to the imports to be doing that crap. I'll race from time to time on the streets but it's nothing to excessive. Just tell the STI to follow you and go to some road with hardly any traffic on it and do a quick little race.

If you dont generally street race, then dont go take part in it! If your willing to live on the edge and take the risk of knowing you might get caught then go for it. I street race all the time and I admit it due to the rush and knowing when enough is enough...without doing it with heavy traffic. Around Virginia we always have big groups meet up at unspoken of spots and race...not your normal street cars either, these are all out drag cars for bragging rights! We've been caught in a couple places, but no big deal we pack up and move on to a new spot and dont use the same spot very long and do it everyweekend there...thats asking to get caught, move around.

well mac D i would love to head down to the track and have fun the safe way but i live in jersey and the tracks are closed until spring time. blkstang what you do moving around is smart and i would do that but there are no other places that i know of to go i always drive around and try to find some other dead roads to go on but there really are none. idk what to do i might just go this weekend once and see how it goes idk though cause i know if i go and it is good im gonna be hooked lol

Well, assuming your info is correct. You are 17 Years old.
Take into account the Risks:
Death - to yourself, or someone else. (unlikely, but possible.)
Getting a Major ticket.
Going to Jail.
Losing your car (either impounded, or wrecked.)
Losing your liscense, (most likely until you are 21yrs old.)
Now, the Better part.
It could be alot of fun.
You might win some races.
You get to show off your Mustang.
I would be a liar to say I've never raced on the street, done it many times. IMHO though, people who get together on a "dead" strip of road to race are completely stupid, it's like "Dude, we could be like the fast and the furious!" Yeah, what happened in that movie? Cops.. Yeah.. Im not saying that you are dumb, im saying that the other people most likey are, and with that said.. I would Stay away.. Far Away..
If you do decide to go, go once and don't race. Just watch. If they act like complete morons, don't go back because most likely they are going to get busted.. Maybe not this weekend, but soon.

I've been going to the street races since I was like 14 or 15...some of my buddies had their hondas and crap..
And yea, its on a strip of road and like...300 cars show up, theres no light...a bunch of people drinking, smoking weed, all that garbage, and then most of the time..little hondas racing...
I will go over there every once in a while.. just to watch and some of the buddies from the local mustang group will go over there to laugh at the fart pipes...
But every weekend I guess there is a helicopter that flies over, and shortly after, a cop will show up. I guess some nights alot of cops will show up and bust everyone.
People get retarded out there...if you want to hang out with a group of your buddies that have nice cars...just meet up, grab a bite to eat, and hang out..we do there here, we go to like...taco bell, eat, and hang out, and shortly after ALOT of cars show up..
I wouldn't take the risk at racing or even going out there... not if you're nervous about wrecking your car, someone hitting you, cops showing up and taking your car, ect..

ill race.... me and other guys go out to the interstate and try digs and roll ons. Well have at least 2 cars with us to block the traffic from behind. Traffic? who cares, we just slow down to a stop. sometimes burnout. then honk and were off. those people behind are always old geysers on their way to bingo anyways. races end at around 135mph. possibly weaving in and out of traffic. we flew right past a cop one time, he didnt even try to chase. haha. ive run cars right in front of the police station before.

New Street Racing Laws for 2007
On January 1st, a new California law went into effect. Street racing is now a felony punishable by up to six months in jail and thousands of dollars in fines.
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/newsrel/n...06/2006-42.htm
All 50 States Laws.
Get caught street racing you lose your drivers license for a year.
and your car impounded. Second offense, Some states have the right to auction off your car and you will loose license for up to 10 years.
Federal Law being drafted by the 110 Congress sponsord by Democrat Nancy Pelosi, is trying to get a bill in this year that will make Street Racing a felony punishable by a Manditory year in prison, $10,000 Fine and Forfiture of your car. Some of you are saying wow thats worse than a DWI. well the new Democratic Congress seems to feel it is a more serious problem and Drinking and driving. "you get what you vote for" right..

Anyone who street races should have their keys taken from them. You don't deserve to drive, own a car, or be on the street. When you grow-up, if you are still alive and not in jail, then you can drive again.
I am not referring to sanction street racing events or a little "pull" every now and then while going within the speed limit.
You want to drive into a tree? I could care less. Kill yourself and I will rest easy. But too many innocent people get hurt and worse. The friggin highway is not your play ground.
Ever been to a funeral? Ever been to a funeral for kid? I have.
Grow the **** up.

I used to street race too all the time when I was in high school. Until a co worker I worked with hit a poll in his g35 and was launched out of his car and killed. I just can't imagine putting my family through something like that.

Same thing here, I had a friend in High school that was racing and went off the road onto the sholder to avoid hitting a car that had turned on to the road, they hit a pile of dirt that was dredge from a canal at 110, fliping end over end 8 times. the driver was hurt with broken arm, both legs, a large cut on face and lost part of his ear. His Best friend was killed instantly when the windshield partially decapitated him. when the driver turned to see if his friend was ok, he shook him and his friends head fell into his lap. He was never the same again. It may not affect some people when they kill strangers but when it your brother of best friend, that would be tough on anyone.
At 18 I was racing and hit a dog, I lost control and went sideways hitting a tree on the passeger door, we spun around and hit a second tree on the drivers door, the first tree fell on top of the car pinning my sister in the passenger seat. the initial impact fractured her sholder and collar bone. cutting her face, and breaking her arm. It still bothers me today and I am 44vivid memories of this moment hurting my younger sister like .
Guys Don't be stupid, you will somday hurt or kill someone for a few minuets of fun.

Please Please go to the track, I would rather see Track Videos and timeslips over obituaries.

You can not predict what other motorist are going to do which is why its so dangerous . You say its in an empty street but someone might be going to Walmart at 300am and makes a right turn into your lane. Same goes for highway with other cars present someone might just switch lanes to pass and when you are going that fast other dirvers can not gauge how quickly you are approaching. You never know they might be doing a sting operation .

I dont see you in Nascar or in national drag racing competitions...so if your insinuating that you are some kind of "pro street racer" you are sadly mistaken it only takes one mistake in a street race to mess your life up even if it's not your mistake.

The problem is not your skills or the skills of the drivers of those crashed cars, it the skills and alertness of the everyday drivers on the road where you are racing. those people do not expect a car coming up from behind them doing 100+ mph, and will change lanes or pull out into traffic right infront of you. your car traveling at 100+ mph can not stop or react the same as it does at 50. The Kid running out into the street to chase a baseball or the dog chasing a cat. these are hazards that cause crashes. Most Street racers know their cars pretty well, they have been driving them for a while, I am sure there are a few that are 16 or 17 that are new drivers and do not know the limitations of their cars and push them to break point.
My son has a friend that has a riced out Acura integra, with a ton of boost, has some nice handling mods, he is a very good driver at 18 and I am amazed how well he can handle his car, but all he does is street race. He is not as arrogant as you in thinking he is the best and can get out of any situation, he know it's only a matter of time before he crashes.
