Question 4:10's at 120mph

Just a question for all with 4:10s...At 120mph my cars rear end sounded loud as hell. I was just wondering if this is normal????? The sound is like a low hum. I can tell its the gears, but I was just wondering if this is normal????? Does anyone else have this "hum" at 120mph?????

Dude, judging by your posts, your gears were in a full day before you flogged them, and four days before a high speed run. The major gear mfr's will tell you to break in your gears in for 30 miles of consistent driving, then for about 500 miles of normal driving before beating on them. You can smoke a cam and lifters due to improper break-in, ring and pinion are no different. Or just crank up the jams and hope they don't frag!

Here's a reference from US Gear about breaking in gears. Althoug it did mention that some gear noise is acceptable. But no worries, I over cranked my 9" gears once, they howled like an old farm truck, but got quieter as they wore. Anbody need a 9 inch 3.50 gear set?

the shop that put mine in said the frpp brand(the ones i got put in mine) are already heat treated up to the 4.56's(but not including them) so with the frpp there is no break in period. However, motive or other companies are probably different.

Its not just driven around in them that I hear a noise, driven around is great, but after 120mph she sounds like a farm truck (LOUD)

Go to Modular Powerhouse... and while your there... get them to slap a blower on your car....
