Question How fast could I go?

Hey guys, I have a K&N intake, uncatted x-pipe, and slp loudmouth catback. my 03 gt is 5spd. everything else is stock(down to the medium-wear z-rated tires) so with those few mods, with near perfect shifting/launching/etc, what is a realistic goal for a 1/4 mile time for me? i have yet to go to a strip though. thanks for any input. and also....what is speed/power shifting??. thanks guys

Im gonna guess a 13.50-13.70 depending on how you can drive it. Powershifting is banging gears with the throttle wide open, speed shifting is shifting gear while letting off the gas pedal. Powershifting is the best way to get a low ET out of your car, when done right, its a rush !!!

13.5 TO 13.7 :cwm10: .... I got a 13.9 outta my GT stock. An exhaust and K&N should get close to 15rwhp, so I dont see the problem.. Again, it depends on how he can drive it....

What altitude you driving at? Assuming sea level, Id'e say breaking into the 14's should be your goal. With some better tires and some suspension mods, and gears, you could get well into the 13's.

If your driving at say 500 feet, I'de predict a 14.2 at 98 mph.

spike africa... stock gt's with expert racers run 14 flat. so after those few mods and decent shifting/launching could easily get me into 13's. 13.9 would not be "lucky". thats more like what i SHOULD get. and im in florida so im like right at sea level. no mountains anywhere.

^ this is true. I havent had the time since i got my car to go to the track and I just wanted to know what would be a respectable time considering the mods i have on it.

I just wanna know what he runs. Plus threads like this are funny because people ask how fast will i go and there is just so many different things there is no real answer. hence why i dont get these threads.

I agree with you. People ask how fast they will go or how much power they will have after this and that. Everything is different, driver, car, dyno, mods, weather conditions, track conditions. I mean there is no way of telling. All youll get is a wide range of times or #'s. Im not bitching, and Ill give you my opinion if you answer some of my questions, but what you should do is go to the track and come back with your times and ask how you can make them better/ what am I doing wrong. If you want that wide range of guesses to what youll run, then just do a little research and look at other peoples mods/times and compare it to your car and then set a goal for yourself. :thumbsup: Hopefully Im not coming off as a smart ***, just tryin to help you out.

1st 60' will pretty much predict what your gonna run. if you can cut a 1.9x 60' you'll get a 13.90...any 60's over 2.00 will be in the 14's. Its not as easy as it looks...most people blow the tires off at the track.

Thats not really true, I ran a 2.20 60' with a 13.76@102.5. My best run so far is a 13.54@101.6 with a 2.06 60'. Both both of those runs are without a tune and I was running lean. So if the a/f was richer my 60' would be lower, but those are my times.

thanks for the help 03gtmustang. Im just worried about looking like an idiot if i got this loud *** mustang gt and i run like a 15. everyone would laugh bc all that power and im slower than a ricer lol. that would be embarassing.

It will most likly happen your first run or two, and to be honest no one will really care. Just go pratice and get those times down, and have fun

Yeah, everyone has been in that same spot. Just vary your launch each run until you find what works best.

Far worse things can happen thatn spinning your tires hard... Ive seen people leave thier cars in reverse when doing the burnout, onr guy in a Lightning actually crashed into the wall that way. Ive also seen people pull past the staging beams and sit there waiting for the light to change...

Yes it is true. Your car has full exhaust/intake mods, 4:10's, subframe connectors among other suspension mods. A 102.5mph trap speed is way too high for a 13.76 run. Your 4:10's will have so much more torque multiplication ability than the thread starters, its not even funny. Take out your gears, your suspension mods, intake and exhaust...then cut those 2.20 60's and you won't even see a 13.90 unless you have perfect air(ie -DA). Your comparing apples to oranges.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere. I would never make fun of a fat guy at the gym....at least he's there.

So what if you pull a 15 or even a 16 (hey, it happens). Don't compare yourself to the pros, only to yourself. Just get out there and run the bastard and go from there. No matter what, you will get better.

There will ALWAYS be someone with a faster car, a nicer car, a hotter g/f, a bigger house, and a better job. Just work on getting better and know that practise and learning from your misstakes will result in improvement.

My bad, I didnt know you were talking directly about this car. I thought you were making a general rule about all cars. I didnt read carefully enough. I agree that your 60' time (which also correlates to your launch) will depict your 1/4 mile time. Just as a side note, my times are with 100% stock suspension besides the pro kit.

:bs: trap speed is not an indication of time its an indication of power to weight my stang has run a 13.67@104.56mph with a 2.115 60 foot time Ive seen a 69 dart run a 14.2 @ 88mph and if trap speed is an indication of time why does an 12 second ferrari trap 120mph a 120 mph trap speed sound to me like an easy low 11 second car to me time is all about hooking up tap speed is all power

i think your pretty close on your numbers, modmotor. AND i'm with MT on this one. 14.2 to start with. start with meaning, dont go down there and think your going to run in the 13s your first time. looking at my time slips, i've cut a 2.1 60' first time at the track and was pushing a 14.1 at 98mph. Its all in that 60'. dont spin danny. go with 15 to 20 psi in the tires. launch on the 3rd yellow at 1200 to 1500rpms and then gun it, you can go higher but it will spin more. as for shifting dont let off the gas, push in the clutch and shift as fast as you can. HEY some people need to know these things, so lay off me

I would say a 13.5-13.7 depending on conditions/driver. I've gone 8.44 @ 82.86 with a 1.90 (spun) 60 foot, so I should be in the low 13's around 102-103.
I just a have a few bolt-ons(plenum/t.b, predator, cat-back, pullies, 3.73's, k&n drop-in filter, and a tri-ax) with the stock mid-pipe. I can't wait to get an o/r x and see what I can do.
