Install NOS on 88 w/188k miles?
I have a chance to purchase a brand new NOS system from a buddy that wrecked his car before he installed it. Sucks for him. Good for me? he wants $200 for it, and he paid $500. Anyways, smart investment for me? Or should I save up for a engine rebuild kit, or something along those lines. I dont burn or leak oil but 188k miles, how much NOS could that engine take?

i would buy it and put it up until i could rebuild the motor. if you have to put it on i wouldn't run more than a 75 shot. no more than you'll use the nitrous you'd be better off waiting on the rebuild unless you have another car to drive. nitrous is fun.

I agree with what was said. 200 dollars is a killer price and even if you didnt put it on right away, you could probably sell on ebay and make a couple bucks. Nitrous on an engine with 188k miles isnt going to be a pretty turnout.

maybe its 88k hell... what a stupid idea to put an odometer with 5 digits. how long did they expect these cars to last? hhmmm.... but whats so wrong with nos on 188k? if i just use a small shot of it. is it that hard on the motor? my compression is good, i dont burn or leak oil(knock on wood), and my car's first and only owner was some chick that used it to drive back and forth to college. when i got the car, it was all original parts, except for the ign module of course. she got knocked up and had two kids a couldnt drive a stock anymore. so it hardly got drove/ drove hard for that matter, untill i got it. i drive the **** out of it. i just want to go faster!!!

I agree with Jeredan. If it's not smoking or anything, and you think it's in pretty good shape.I wouldnt be afraid to shoot it. I seen people shoot 200,to 150,000 mile stocker, and last for over two years. That's racing every weekend.Thats definatly pushing it HARD.I would do like the others said.Shoot 75,even a 100 would be fine.Just make sure you keep the solenoid's clean, and make sure the timings right. Enjoy!!!

i'd buy it.. i'd run a 75-100 shot with that kind of miles unless you got money to start fixing or rebuilding... but i got a buddy running a 250 shot on a 200,000 mile stock bottom end.. it smokes a lil but thats cause he's burnt the rings
its holding up nice... but theres no telling what your motor can handle till you do it..
and if you dont or didnt buy it.. i'll take it.. LMK

As with any car you put NOS on its all about the tuning, have a good dyno shop put a diablo chip and a fule pressure reg in it and tune it right you could run that 100 shot all day long. a local shop here ran a 250 shot all season in a camaro pulled the motor at the end of the season and they said it all looked brand new inside.
Even if its one of those "safe" kits with the brain boxs TUNE TUNE TUNE.
ive seen a motor that had a "safe" kit on it and its missing a rod and there was some stuff stuck to the main caps that i think where suposed to be the berings
