Hea folks, new guy here.
My brother in law is paying me to hop up his 1987 5.0 EFI mustang. I need some basic info from you. Where and how do i find the engine numbers? How about suffix codes? What is a good performace book for the 5.0? What is the weakest part of this engine? Heads? I would like to put the car in the low 13`s. Where would you start?
How tough is the Facroey rear end? How do you fella`s get this car to hook up>
Lot`s of questions. I would appreciate your answers.
Mean time i will lurk around here and keep learning.
Thanks a bunch.

well if u want to get it into the 13's dont do what i did. lol. i would be able to help u more if it was a 1989-1993 fox. but start with gears and an upgrade in tire size. or even throw some slicks on there when u get to the track. headers would be nice too. and definitely get some head work on these cars.

The rear is pretty tuff but the axles wont take alot of abuse its hit or miss some guys get 100's of 5k drops out of a stock rear some blow them with drag radials its a crap shoot. Powerwise the heads and cam hold back alot of power. I would look into skipping the bullshit like pulleys etc.... just get a good exhaust system on the car and then go straight to finding a cam, heads, intake manifold setup you like.

There are alot of great books on 5L performance here are a few.

THis is a good one, my freind has it and i have looked threw it its great: http://www.amazon.ca/Mustang-Perform.../dp/1557881936

Thats the best one for the 5L if you ask me; but here is pretty much all the mustang books you would ever need.

Like mentioned, i would definitley get a good intake, cam and heads, with the right combo, you could get to 300rwhp. Also, some LT header, mid pipe and catbacks. I would have picked 4.10's or maybe 3.73's. the 3.55's is ok for long cruises on the streets. Also some drag radials or slicks.
