You cant use the 3650 as it doesnt have the bell housing to bolt onto a 5.0L motor so thats out (assuming were talking manual tranny here). You would need a either to go aftermarket for the wiring harness or go with a 94-95 ecu and wiring harness. If it was me and i just had to go 5L for some reason i would go with whatever motor you want and get an aftermarket efi setup to run on it like F.A.S.T. megasquit etc... then use the stock ECU for its wiring thats allready there like head lights etc...

But thats me. HOnestly why do you want to toss the 4.6 is not gonna be easy to do this swap.

well i just havent been happy with the 4.6 and all my friends have a 4.6 with a sc on it and they still arent very happy with it and ive always been a fan of the push rod motors so you know just thought the newer body and the older motor would be awesome but i think i might just buy a fox but we will see

I'd be easier to build your motor. I know your pretty set on a pushrod but why dont you give a stroker kit a try. Then if you have extra funds supercharge it. Not worth the swap IMO this is a easier solution

get a built 4.6. then beef the rear. the tko 600 or the mmr750. throw a kenne bell 2.6 on it and boost the sh*t out of it. see if your not happy then.

Example:
This car is at fully weight, nothing removed (still has cold a/c, radio, ect.)

owner of the car is owner of Modular Powerhouse, home to many 600hp+ 4.6 mustangs (hence the name MODULAR Powerhouse)

If you do decide to put a 5.0 in your car keep us posted, and take alot of pics. I think it would be cool to see 5.0 engine in a 99-04 mustng, Just having a cam in it sounds great. and 5.0 engine are cheaper and have alot more upgrade then 4.6 do. Either way Good Luck.

Buy a donor car... Im actually getting ready to take the 331 out of my 93 and put it in my 2002 gt (not happy either) and build a 408 for the 93. For the 02 Im using the painless wiring harness, specified for that engine (302). Anderson Ford Motorsport ECU. Not sure which but aftermarket tranny is a must and I think the drive shaft will need to be custom, I measured them once to get an idea and I think they measured a little different, but not sure it was dark, late, and cold. Its not goin to be a hard job but time consuming. good luck with yours!!
