Default **Help**87 hatch fuel level gauge

Ok, recently I have noticed that after filling up (gauge reads full) the needle takes forever to get to half a tank and once getting there the little dummy light comes on.

Now it gets goofy. Gas light will come on, go off again and again. THEN,,as I drive the needle will go back up to full again. I finally said heck with it and kept going to see if it would go below half tank. It did, but I dont have much faith in this gauge.

I know the gauge works on electrical resistance, but is this "issue" fixable or should I just get a new gauge?

sounds more like a fuel sender issue, sometimes over the years the float will start to absorb fuel or the sender itself could just be bad

Thnx Randy. Motor is actually coming out for parts soon. Will be adding a new fuel pump and need to address this fuel level issue.

your sending unit may have a bad ground or just may be going out. corrosion can do crazy things to wire connections, i see it everday here in korea. a lot of our gas turbine generators go on the fritz sometimes.
