Muffler bypass w/elec cutout?
I've got an 87 5.0 GT. Putting on complete new exhaust system-thinkin of having cutouts put in front of mufflers and dumping out back into pipes behind muffler. Will I lose power and/or low end due to loss of backpressure??

you will be fine... just don't use massive pipes... stick with 2.5 - 2.75 inch pipe and ya'll be alright

thanx again Greg, you seem to know your stuff. I wuz thinkin about goin w/ a shorty small dia. header. - any suggestions?(price don't really matter-worth it in the long run to buy the best). p.s.- your Granny is way cool

Look into long tubes... If you don't want to deal with them (they can be a bitch and are huge)... then look into equal length headers...
I run MAC equal length (shorty) headers and recomend them if you decide you don't want LTs
I take it that you will have the rest of the exhaust done custom...
I would use 2.5 inch piping
EDIT...
In the Long Run... definately go with Long tubes... I recomend Hooker

They shouldn't hang much lower then the midpipe or anything else though...
You'll just want to avoid speedbumps...

Just buy some Warlock mufflers. They come w/two exits at the rear of the muffler. One will be for tailpipes and the other is a block off plate held on by 3 wingnuts. Had them on my car and "uncorked" they sound awesome yet loud.
