Default The Newest Guy With Some Questions!

as we all know, i am the newest guy here! :sign4: i have a whole bunch of questions for you guys. first the run down on what we are looking at. 94 mustang gt 5.0 thus far it has the mac pro chamber h pipe, 2 chamber flowmasters, tri-ax short throw shifter, mallory super conductor wires, msd coil, msd cap and rotor, k&n kit, and of course high performance blinker fluid! the car currently has over 150,000 miles on it. heres some questions. obviously its about time to get a new motor in this thing. it still pulls real hard, but i just need more in it. now.....i just got my hands on a upper and lower cobra intake, 70mm bbk throttle body, 70mm mass air, and 24 pound injectors. i was originally thinking that i would go with a 302 shortblock, and just put all this stuff on it, but now im thinking of going to the 347 shortbloack instead. as far as i know, all of these components will work on that shortblock with the help of a slightly bigger fuel pump. any help that can be offered in this area would be great! also, i just recently added the 18 inch 2000 cobra r rims, and i just ordered a set of the bfg comp t/a 295/35/zr18 tires. will these fit under the car? :cussing: (just a foot note) bfg discontinued those tires, so if you go to the tire rack web site, they have them closeout priced at 119 bucks! ya cant beat that! well, its great to be a part of another forum, and i look forward to helping out in any way that i can!

Hmm thats going to be tight, just make sure the backspacing doesn't run the rim too far in. Are they 18x10 or what? It will look sweet if it works though!

building a 347 would make a grate base to start with but it will be choked by the stock cam and heads and you may consider a 331 if you are eventualy going to supercharge or turbo charge it

im currently looking for a set of heads, and i had already decided to bump up to a new cam. i was thinking of the e303, or something close. if you guys know of anyone with a set of heads for sale, holla at me.
new topic. the car is goofy in alot of ways, but one thing has plagued us for a long time. sometimes the car just doesnt want to start. it will turn over al day long, but wont fire. then ya let it sit for a little while and all of a sudden it runs fine for a week, maybe two, maybe even a month. we have replaced the fuel pump, the cap and rotor, (not related, but put in a brand new alternator) and even found a problem with the ground wire and fixed that. the car has seen many techs....and no one can figure out what the problem is. someone recently said that the distibutor could be going out...but as far as i know, a distributor works alot like being pregnant....either it is or it isnt. there is no inbetween. if anyone thinks different, let me know. once again, the car does have 150,000 miles on it, so at this point it could be anything. i think the timing chain is still the original that came in the car, so im sure its streched a little over time, but that doesnt explain why it works sometimes and doesnt other times. the car runs like a champ when it does start, so i would think that if it were a streched out timing chain, the car would run like crap. someone please help before i light it on fire and start over!!!!!

well time to get more detailed information. Sometimes it wont start just crank. Does this happen if the has reached opperaiting temperature or does it not matter. Engines only need 4 peramiters to run Fuel,Air,Spark, and Timing. So i would first check to make sure you have fuel preasure ( you probably have all ready done this). Second this is kind of rednecked but can you flood the motor and smell gas this would let you no that the injectors are fireing. If you smell gas then It would have to be a spark related problem. Timing chains generally only streach around 2-3 degrees so unless it has jumped some teeth on the gear this shouldnt be a problem. Next i would check the ignition coil and ignition module You can have these checked at autozone as long as their off the car. It could be the distributer Could have a bad pick up coil. You need to make sure you have spark you can do this using a screw driver and a nice thick rubber glove ( the glove is for your safty) you can remove the coil wire put the screwdriver into the boot and hold it to close to a place were the spark can jump to a ground if you dont see a spark you wont have spark from the coil if you have spark here then check it at the spark plugs the same way that will let you now that it is something on the distributer that is bad. It could also be a bad maf, ecm, tps.
