yeh... another egr valve + smog pump issue...

let me get this straight

EGR valve = mechanism that takes exhaust gasses and throws them into combustion chamber to aid in burning gas...

SMOG pump = thingamabob that allows cooler air into the exhaust (needed for a car with cats)

I see talk of people takin this **** off...

well why? whats the point?

it'll only hurt gas milage... or does it do more?

also... wouldnt removing these things cause the o2 sensors to throw codes resulting in the engine running lean... which a lean engine is not a good thing and is the last thing i need and cant afford to fix...

any help?

GREG@94GT 05-03-2006 09:24 PM

wow...

uh.. tony... I'm sure you could help me out?

yea its not a good idea to take it off unless u have it taken off ur computer 1st. from what i understand timing might be added and ull prolly get some detonation, throw some codes, and most likely wont pass emissions. the only benefit is just cleaning up the engine bay. maybe some other stuff, but i dunno.

i still have all my stuff hooked up, but would love to get rid of it. plus i have inspections here. i guess u could always swap to a fox style setup which is cleaner looking then the sn and it gets rid of the tube, which usually u break anyways.

i was told to yank it out... i was like, ehhhh i dont know bout that...

I dont need to pass emisions...:shifty: but... i thought it was pointless

I yanked my EGR and smog pump out and nothing wrong happened to my 95GT. I wanted to get rid of the EGR due to it pumping hot exhaust gases back into the intake, and heat kills horsepower. But then a year or more later, i carbed it, which it was awesome.

I have removed my smog pump and running a shorter belt. Removed EGR and all smog related plumbing. Bought an EGR simulator on E-bay which basically makes the computer think that the EGR is operating properly. No codes no lean condition no detonation. if anything it runs a little rich by the smell of the exaust and look of the plugs. deleting the smog pump freed up some horsepower that was noticable to me, i know that will prob get some arguements. not to mention 25lbs or so of weight removed
