Default New to mustangs

I came from the world of rice bruning and i finally bought a 1997 3.8L V6 Convertible Mustang. I'm taking any advice on tuning and such, my first mod I'm thinking about is a new exhaust system. Can someone steer me in the right direction

Congrats on getting the rice out of you but if you are looking for a v8 sound from a v6 you will be dissapointed. Most could imitate at idle by at full throttle will not duplicate. There are many forum members that can help you as they have v6s but keep in mind that if you want big hp then you should of had a v8. Im on my 3rd stang and first v8 and you know what they say once you go v8 you never go back.

Venom is right about the sound. It'll never sound anything like a V8 (although some at idle will mimick one decently). V6 performance has come a long ways though. Numerous have hit 11s now and it hasn't really cost an arm and a leg. Pete ran 11.3 with less than 5000 worth in mods and no weight reduction. Justin hit 11.9 with a pair of junkyard turbos. If you want performance out of a 6, just remember to skip the usual bolt-ons, and really save up for the big stuff.

You can get a adapter from pacesetter fpr arounf 70 bucks. That will convert your y to a h and then you can get a set of GT takeoffs ( i got mine free from someone changing out their stock V8 exhaust) and then get you some flowmaster 40's and you are good to go. I would sound like a v8 but it sounds good. That would be the first MOD I would do. I then got a CAI and underdrive Pulleys. So there is a start for ya... If I can find this link I have I will share it with you but... I will look.

"sounding liek an 8" is a horrible way to put it. im sure that combination will sound good, i know my MAC dualies sound AWESOME an di dont even have new headers or cats or anything... My V6 is commonly misconstrewed to be a GT... now my car is loud, as loud as a GT, but has a different sound to it, but both sound good, and i basically know what the loudest setup on a GT sounds like, considering ive only riden in it a million times (JBA Shorties, bassani sull stainless catted X pipe and dual exhaust, was really loud my brothe rfirst go it, then he removed the baffles (which were right at the exit of the exhaust, so quick removal) I do believe it was the loudest legal setup you could have on the 01' GT, (he also has the MAC CAI) and then he took the baffes out, so it is now incredibly loud... unmistakable sound... i want my next car to sound that damn good, but i am DAMN happy with the way my six sounds!
BTW my MAC dualies only cost me 299.99 shipped to my door with the neccesary hangars... its a true fit system for the Y pipe and was an easy install which we did ourselves.. so it only cost us 300... got it off ebay but you could just as easily but it from there website... mustangwarehouse.com i believe... not that i would ever wish to take business away from MT... lol
