so i came into about 700$ and i was looking to see what i coudl do to get a little more power out of my 99 v6 right now all it has for performance is a flowmaster cat back

i was thinking about doing a gt catback with x pipe. i was thinking that would give me the most power for the money. they say with just the gt catback u get from 15 - 20 hp and with the x pipe i was thinking 20-25 hp if i do this i was thinking about slp catback and x pipe. need opinions and ideas though

well you allready have a catback so i would just say screw it and do something else. Like he said nitrous and you could get a under drive pulley too.

If you do get nitrous make sure you start out with just a 50 shot until you either buy an x pipe or you are completely sure its not "pinging" when you get on it. $700 will not get you a proper nitrous system. Yea you could get some cheapo nitro setupo but It could cost you an engine in the end. An NX Kit with bottle heater and a window switch will cost you around $800-900. You can probably install it yourself if you have patience and take your time.

If I were you Id buy Gears and underdrive pulleys. Those 2 will cost you around $400-500. Those will drop you E.T by about a half second or equal to 50 hp. You have 200 left to buy some lowering springs or something.

 

Um your post confusses me a bit but I'll try and help.

1. Gt take-offs are a great mod I love mine. That power estimate is a bit optamistic on an N/A 3.8 but it's still a great building mod.
2. An X pipe will not gain you any kind of power. Unless you go offroad and if you do your six will sound like *** and actually lose power.
3. You can find a good nitrous set-up for that. Zex or NX you could find a nice used system or even a new one you'll just have to shop around. And you can go ahead and run a 75 shot no problem.
4. I don't know why jeredan2003 thinks an x-pipe has anything to do with pinging because it doesn't...


There is a lot of mis-information on this site about the 3.8 and V6's in general. It's not anyones fault since most people on here have V8's mostly the 4.6's and they try their best to help but the 3.8 is just a completely different animal. If you need more help just ask I'll try my best. Or better yet try v6power.net or 3.8mustang.com, those two sites are the best for V6 tech

 

and with a small 75 shot you dont need a window switch. there isnt that big a chance you will blow it. Trust me a 75 shot is little kids stuff. its a good shot for a stock bottom end 3.8 for a daily driver but all i would buy is a used wet kit from anyone (it doesnt have ot be NX like everyone says) and a fuel pressure saftey switch and you would be plenty safe. and installing it is fairly easy if you can change oil and lightbulbs i think you can drill a few holes and run some wires.

 

what about the venom 1000 kit would that be a good idea i herd they were the safest

 

idk man nitrous is a mod you do when you know what your doin with your engine...for 700 bucks...got to RPM outlet and they can hook you up with the pullies pack for 200, or the intake kit for 450...they've dyno'd all their products...so they're pretty trust worthy in acurate judgements...not like the 5 dollar chip that magically gets you 50 hp to the wheels...LoL...

A few things... Don't buy from RPMoutlet. They lie plain and simple. The throttle body, save your time and money there is no point since out intakes and throttle body sizes match from the factory all you'll be doing is creating a "step" for incoming air flow and losing velocity. Everything else looks ok but remember to only get the ASP underdrive crank pulley, that other crap some people try to sell has no affect on us 99+ guys.

 

If the thread starter is intrested, I have stock H pipe and Catback from my low milage 99 GT as well as stock 17" 99 GT wheels and tires. Id sell it all cheap. I also have a adjustable Zex wet kit for any EFI setup. its two years old but only filled twice.. Id be willing to offer a package deal if intrested !!
