Instrument cluser swap

Instrument cluser swap
I have an 03 V6 that needs the instrument cluster replaced. I can just get another v6 cluster if I have to, but I was thinking about putting in a GT or Mach 1 cluster in instead. Is there going to be any issues with that? Does it have to be calibrated? Are there any swap tricks or hacks that I could try? Or will it swap no prob?
For the record, I looked on google and searched these forums before I posted.

You can't run anything but a v6 cluster because of the ECU. If you put in a GT or any other cluster the car will not start and even with PATS disabled (the Ford anti theft system) it will not run the car. The Cluster is an integral part of the computer system in the newer Fords. Your better off finding one in a junkyard then paying dealer prices for a new one.

what exactly is wrong with your cluster?
for the record, you cannot swap out ANY mustang cluster without Ford re-flashing PATS and the ECU. You also cannot swap a V6 cluster for a V8, speedo and tach are diff.
Having said that, if both clusters are in working order, you CAN do a swap(there's a trick). I know this because I just did it with a Mach 1 cluster into my GT. This was done AFTER Ford told me they wanted $50 to do a re-flash.
First off, V6 to V6, V8 to V8 only, as far as I know.
Second, if both clusters are in good working order, you can swap out the ELECTRONICS from one cluster to the next, and you will be good.
Basically, I pulled the circuit board off of my cluster, and attached it to the Mach 1 cluster, getting the fancy cluster with my GT's original guts. works fine, drive it every day.
So, yes, it can be done, and if you want more info, I can pass along my knowledge.

I'm using my once-per-year necro post pass.. Wildride, is the purpose of swapping your gauge's circuit board to retain your mileage reading on the Mach 1 cluster? That doesn't **** with the gauge readings does it?
